Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For such a small city, Colorado Springs has built up quite an impressive array of dining options, many of which are just a 10-minute walk from campus. Downtown Tejon Street has the greatest concentration of restaurants lined up conveniently on three city blocks. These trendy restaurants attract the business crowd for weekday lunches, but only get really packed on Friday and Saturday nights. When students aren’t sure what they want—only that they want a break from campus food—they walk up and down Tejon, choosing among homemade Italian pizzas and calzones at Il Vicino, spicy Mexican burritos at José Muldoon’s, a quick reuben sandwich at the Broadway Deli, or (if their parents are in town) a $50 steak dinner at MacKenzie’s. Just off Tejon is an even wider selection, including a number of international eateries. The all-time student favorite for desserts is undoubtedly the downtown Josh & John’s, an alumni-owned ice cream shop that serves homemade flavors with a Ben & Jerry’s atmosphere.

For those with a car, the options expand tremendously, as Colorado Springs is a sprawling city and has many good restaurants tucked in places that one might never think to look. Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs, the oldest parts of the city nestled up against the mountains, have an incredible selection of restaurants—too many to name or even try to name. In short, eating off campus is a great way for students to break the routine of the few on-campus dining options. There are many choices, and students will be hard-pressed to find a bad dish.

Great Options!

My favorite places to go are Wooglins (an awesome deli shop) and Poor Richard's (a coffee shop/restaurant/bookstore), but there are tons of other places that are close by and are usually generally affordable. Also there's a 7/11 right by Slocum so that's good for late night food runs.

Delicious but Sometimes Pricey

CC is right next to downtown so it's a quick walk to lots of restaurants, many of which take gold card plus money which can be added to your student account by you or your parents and used as a debit card. Lots of restaurants offer CC discounts too. Most restaurants are moderately priced and there isn't much in terms of fast food within walking distance, but there also isn't much of a demand for it. Popular places to eat include Wooglins Deli, Poor Richards, La'aus, Josh and Johns, and Fujiyama.

Tejon Street Eating

Tejon, a street adjacent to Colorado College, offers a plethora of dining options. You can get pizza, salads, wine, chocolate or tea at Poor Richard's, pasta at Rasta Pasta, delicious sandwiches at Wooglins, fish tacos at La'au's, and all these options are less than three blocks from campus!
