College Prowler Take

Colorado College students vote “Yes” on their college, and overall they appreciate and enjoy the time they spend at the school. The climate, social opportunities, intense academics, and the chance to become involved in a variety of activities even as a first-year student sways visitors within moments. With the caveat that a few students do transfer (usually due to the intense Block Plan), incoming students and those planning to apply should drop in for a visit, either over a morning and afternoon, or overnight. More than most other colleges, CC earns the respect of its current students and graduates for the training they receive in many areas, which will serve them throughout life. Aside from social and academic elements, CC makes amazing speakers and activities available. Recently, sexual assault education has been a hot topic, and speakers from a variety of assault response groups have been speaking to groups of students in the residence halls. Additionally, Nobel laureates frequently drop in to dispense pearls of wisdom. Best yet, with all the grants and funding available for student projects, rarely a night passes without a student giving a presentation about their adventures hiking in Tibet, helping immigrants survive at the US-Mexico border, or interning in the Antarctic. It’s possible to get an education nearly anywhere, but to get an experience as well, CC seems to be the choice of its students.

Rich Experiences

Colorado College is for independently motivated students who like to try new things and get involved. There are a great variety of courses offered, and a number of incredible people and opportunities. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the block plan and the social scene- but being overwhelmed in college every now and then isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The Best School Ever

A+

My experience at Colorado College does not seem to compare to any of my other friends at other schools. The level of education, the quality of people and the closeness of the school all create a great atmosphere where you can find at no other school!

The people here are really intelligent, but not flashy about it. In general the atmosphere is really open and people are super friendly. Plus, the vast majority of people are very committed to their study, but know how to throw down on the weekends/block breaks.

I Wouldn't Go Anywhere Else

A+

CC is amazing. We're on the block plan--taking one class at a time for 3.5 weeks, 4 blocks a semester--which isn't for everyone, but I love it. The class sizes are always under thirty students, and they're really intense because you learn everything you would in a semester class in 3.5 weeks. The great thing about it, though, is that it allows for a lot of travel and field trips. The professors are very accessible; your class is the only class they teach during that block. The best thing about the block plan is the block breaks; after each class is completed you have a four day weekend where you can going skiing or go on a school-sponsored trip, whatever you want to do.

There are definitely aspects of CC that I do dislike, but it makes you more tolerant and accepting of those things. It changed me in many ways and contributes to the the whole maturity process, which comes with college. Overall, CC is a great place. It challenges you academically with the block plan and all, but your social life is in no way compromised. Everyone here is cool and the people you meet make the learning experience much more worthwhile
