Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The parking strategy at CC is simple: don’t move your car if you don’t have to. The most obvious root of this problem is the size of the campus itself. In total, CC covers roughly two square blocks, plus some space for playing fields and facilities. Most of the limited space is covered with residence halls, academic buildings, and, most substantially, green space. The result is space for three cramped parking lots and odd groupings of a few parking spaces spread out around campus. On the plus side, the small size of campus, which limits the number of parking spots available, also ensures that those spaces you can find are never very far from your destination.

Freshmen are technically not allowed to have cars on campus, which only means that they can’t register a vehicle with Campus Security and buy a parking permit. If first-year students do decide to bring a car, they’ll only need to find parking spaces on the streets surrounding campus, which is no small feat on a weekday night. In fact, many students with cars simply park on the streets rather than pay the fee for a parking permit. In addition to finding space, students should be wary of theft and vandalism. Neither of these crimes is overly common on or around campus, but the occasional, sporadic rash of break-ins has left students suspicious of auto security. Upperclassmen should have no problem purchasing a parking pass, although those who apply late may end up having to park across campus, away from their residence hall. Seniors who live off campus generally commute on foot or by bicycle.

Not Much Need

Student who don't have a car at school do not really suffer at all because Colorado College has an incredibly small campus. Most things you'd need downtown are easily within walking or biking distance, and the weather is usually wonderful!

Colorado College also provides a shuttle, Campus Safety, and Safe Ride to transport anyone around Colorado Springs and the Colorado College Campus. They're all free- it's wonderful.

Students can bring a car, parking is easy, and it's pretty inexpensive.

You Need a Permit!

You're probably not going to be able to find a parking spot on campus unless you get a pass which costs $200 for the year. You could park on the street but sometimes that can be hard to find.

Not an Issue

Freshmen aren't technically allowed to have cars on campus which really only means it's hard to get a parking pass. Most freshmen just park on the street and sometimes get parking tickets. Campus is small enough that no one drives around campus and there's usually enough parking to store your car until you need it to go off-campus.

Getting a Parking Permit

Parking permits are easy to obtain for any student through an online request form. Often, students don’t get a permit for the lot closest to their residence, but the campus is small enough that the walk is never longer than 10 minutes.

Did You Know?

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot

  • Spots are almost always available in the big lot to the east of Mathias.
  • If you don't want to cough up a few hundred dollars for a parking permit, the best option is to park along Nevada, the street that marks the eastern border of campus, or along other nearby streets. There are always spots open on the streets, and the walk to any dorm is only a few minutes.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here!

  • The parking lots for the on-campus apartments are always full, day and night. You won’t ever find an open spot.
