Parking Permits

Parking permits are easy to obtain for any student. Often, students won’t get a permit for the lot closest to their residence, but the campus is small enough that the walk is never longer than 10 minutes.

College Prowler Take

The parking strategy at CC is a simple one: don’t move your car if you don’t have to. This philosophy, seemingly held by most students, stems from the administration’s apparent struggle to provide adequate parking for the campus community. The most obvious root of this problem is the size of the campus itself. In total, CC covers roughly two square blocks, plus some space for playing fields and facilities. Most of the limited space is covered with residents halls, academic buildings, and, most substantially, green space. The result is space for three cramped parking lots and odd groupings of two or three spots spread out around campus.

Freshmen are technically not allowed to have cars on campus, which only means that they can’t register a vehicle with campus security. If first year students do decide to bring a car, they’ll only need to find parking space on the streets surrounding campus, which is no small feat on a weekday night. In addition to finding space, freshmen should be wary of theft and vandalism. Neither of those crimes is overly common on or around campus, but the occasional, sporadic rash of break-ins has left many students suspicious of auto security. Upperclassmen should have no problems getting a parking pass, although many have to park across campus from their residence hall due to overcrowding.

The college does not allow freshmen to get parking passes, so if you bring a car you’ll have to park on the street. The only disadvantage with this situation is that you are more likely to have your car broken into, though it isn’t common enough to really worry about.

I have two words: Parking sucks! Don’t bring a car your freshman year because you won’t see it until the end of the second semester. After that, parking still sucks, but you have a better chance of getting spaces on campus.

Did You Know?

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot
Spots are almost always available in the dirt lot to the west of Mathias. The best option—although permits are free—is to not get a parking permit and park along Cascade or Nevada, the two streets that border the campus to the east and west. There are almost always spots open on the streets, and the walk to any dorm is only two minutes.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here!
The parking lots for the on-campus apartments are always full, day and night. You won’t ever find an open spot.
