Columbia College is a private, conservative school that offers a diverse learning environment for every student. The school and its faculty strive to not discriminate based on sexual orientation. Many classes involve an investigation of liberal ideas, including studying alternative cultures, like postmodernism, gay and lesbian culture, the civil rights movement, and evolution.

Columbia College is a nonsectarian school that welcomes students of all religious denominations. The school does retain a covenant with the Disciples of Christ church from its inception in 1851.
