College Prowler Take
Consensus among students regarding drugs is that if you want them, you can get them. Caffeine is the drug of choice, but alcohol, nicotine, and marijuana are not far behind. Harder drugs are not unheard of, and they are very possible to attain, but they are not as visible, and unless you’re sniffing them out, you’d never know cocaine, ecstasy, or acid were present. Study drugs are rumored to thrive in certain disciplines. Use and abuse of alcohol and marijuana runs rampant on weekends or during slow periods, but because of the dedication of the student body, few students are willing to risk their academic future by partying too hard during the school week. For those who do not wish to imbibe or get stoned, you do not have to be exposed to those things if you choose your friends wisely; however, it is commonplace to see the squarest of students guzzling vodka and/or sharing a joint at a party. Despite the fact that many students cut loose with some kind of substance, nobody will mock you if you opt out. Columbia is chock full of very hard-working ambitious kids who would choose a good night’s sleep over seven Kamikazes and a hangover that won’t allow any reading to get done the next day.

Marijuana is the illegal drug of choice, and it is almost always available, as it’s tough not to be exposed to a possible contact high at most parties. There’s very little peer pressure, though. The potheads would rather keep their stash than waste it on someone who does not even want to try it. This drug is highly visible in the social scene, but it is the individual’s choice on whether or not to partake in this vice. |

I really didn’t see much of the drug scene since the crowd I hung with was more into alcohol than anything else, but I hear it’s around. I don’t know much about it, though, other than that there are numerous pot smokers. |

Drugs are available if you want them, but they’re not required to have a good time. |

It’s college. There’s lots of pot, and coke is pretty popular, too. Ecstasy seems to be a bit slower making a splash on the scene, but it’s there and getting bigger. Basically, if you want to be in the scene, you won’t have a problem, and if you don’t, you may not even realize it’s there. |

There are drugs on campus but not in abundance. At Columbia, they are something that can be easily avoided, that’s for sure. There’s never a pressure; either you smoke pot or you don’t, and people are really cool with that, thankfully. Pot is the biggest drug on campus, though I am sure there are other things floating around. |
