College Prowler Take
Don’t bring a car. There is no parking on campus, and local garages are very expensive. Those used to owning a car might find the inability to drive to be off-putting, but after a while, it is a blessing. There is very little street parking near campus, so those who do drive to school often have to park upwards of 20 blocks away.
It is not worth the heartache or expense to bring a car to Columbia. Bringing a car is like taking your mom on a first date. It’s a nice idea, but the reality could be disastrous. When you need a car fix, take a cab or go to your friend’s house in New Jersey for the weekend.

It’s pretty impossible to have a car in the first place. The subway, buses, and cabs are the best way to go. Living in New York City really makes you appreciate the convenience of public transportation. |

There is no parking scene on campus. There’s only really expensive parking garages and street parking, which can be pretty hard to get. I don’t know a single student who owns a car in the city. Even most professors ride the subway, or they find some other form of transportation. |

I commute to Columbia. It’s really hard to find parking unless you get monthly parking at a garage; but for that, you need to sign up months in advance. Otherwise, you can find parking on the street if you come in early enough. |
