Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Most students absolutely love Columbia. They discovered the school that filled their academic, social, and professional needs. Since Columbia is so selective, most people who attend are thrilled to be here and would never wish to be anywhere else.

Columbia has the potential to give any student what they are looking for—be it prestige, socialization, culture, or a degree from one of the finest schools in the world. The city is not for the weak-hearted. Those who need hand-holding may not find that kind of support here, but then again, they might, if they look in the right place. It takes time to find and access the things you want and need (and often students discover fulfillment in things they never thought they’d like before like exploring the city late at night or finding joy in Medieval Italian Literature), but if you’re willing to work a little bit and leave a little up to chance, you may get more out of college than most of your high school friends who went to smaller, less diverse schools with fewer opportunities. Sure, there are some disappointments, but on the whole, there is no place like Columbia in the city of New York—a place where you can not only get an Ivy League education, but also enjoy everything that the most exciting city in the world has to offer.

Not for Everyone, but Perfect for Many!

Obviously, this school is in the best city on Earth. If I could do it over again, I would pick to go to Columbia over and over, no lie. It has a great location; nestled between two parks in upper Manhattan. The students here are diverse, and don't fit that stereotype of the "Ivy-Leaguer". The financial aid here is amazing, as well. Columbia also has something for everyone; whatever you want to study, work, or play, they have it. Promise. It's also pretty small compared to the other ivies, and that contributes to the community feel and close-knittedness of the campus. I love it here, and while it's not for everybody, Columbia is a great choice for the independent student who loves the bustle of city life.

It's Nothing Like You've Ever Experienced

This place is a surge of energy. You will be exposed to more things here in a week than you have in your entire life. You will meet incredible people and do incredible things and have an incredible time. You will find yourself here. Your life will never be the same.

Faculty is Great

So far, my experience has been very positive. The professors are the best part of the school, though some can be extremely arrogant. The negative side to the education is the cost. Tuition is far too expensive for my family.
