College Prowler Take
New York has all four seasons, although the winter covers the largest part of the school year. The snow, ice, and wind are tough to take, especially for those students coming from warmer climates. For those staying on campus for the summer, the humidity is a problem and air conditioning isn’t always available. Fall and spring are short-lived and very enjoyable. Students seem to either love or hate the weather in New York. It is a source of both pleasure and pain, and some find the inconsistency to be a curse. New York is often wet, regardless of the season. Surprise thunderstorms are known to pop up, and you end up looking like a drowned rat. Bring lots of layers; you’ll wear everything you own on a snowy winter’s day, and you’ll want to strip down to your Skivvies in the summer to beat the heat. Expect weather as diverse as the people in New York.

New York can be freezing in the winter, and it’s hot and humid in the summer. Layering clothing is essential to winter survival because you are constantly moving in and out of heated classrooms to cold halls. Bring a coat that is waterproof and easy to put on and take off. Hats, scarves and gloves are a must, too. |

The beginning and end of the school year can get hot. Usually, winters in New York are pretty cold but really fun—the cold weather, the snow, and the lights and decorations. It’s a great time to be around. |

It’s New York, and it’s supposed to be cold, but in recent years, it was only cold for a little bit. I guess the global warming is making traditionally cold regions warmer. |

The weather is usually pretty decent. In the winter, we usually get some snow, but the walkways and roads are always cleared almost immediately. I’ve never spent the summer in the city, but it can get quite humid during the first and last months of school. |

The weather here is the typical four seasons—cold and snowy in the winter, hot and humid in the summer. But New York also has some unpredictable weather. This spring was pretty cold. I remember, it was 80 degrees one week, and then the week after, it was 40 or 50 degrees. It’s kind of weird sometimes. During the winter, you’ll just get sick of the cold—that’s when everyone falls into some sort of slump. |
