New York is fortunate enough to get all four seasons. While the majority of the academic year occurs during wintry months, students do get to experience the loveliness of fall and spring in the city. These are made especially enjoyable in contrast to the oppressive cold which marks a Northeastern winter. Winds are strong due to campus being located near the Hudson River, and snow is a fairly frequent occurrence.
One thing which seems to occur no matter what the season is rain. Many students from drier climates find themselves scrambling to buy rain boots and umbrellas within the first few months of arriving at Columbia. Luckily, rain and cold make it easier to stay inside and study; productivity tends to decrease as temperatures rise and the sun begins to shine.
