The professors in each of my study areas (education, art, and Spanish) are wonderful! In the beginning education classes there isn't a lot of outside of class work with the exception of field experience. Once you get closer to student teaching, there is a lot more work to do out side of class. All art classes require hours of studio time.

Being an education major, they make getting pre-professional hours really easy to get. They work these hours in to class assignments, and some classes even will go do field work instead of having class on a certain day. The methods classes will go to a classroom, observe, and go back to the class a few weeks later to practice teaching.

Health & Safety:
I feel relatively safe walking around campus. Campus security is very willing to help whenever needed. If you feel uncomfortable, you can call security, and they will walk you to your dorm, your car, or wherever you need to go on campus. Whenever something happens on campus, they're always quick to respond.

There are 3 cafes located around campus where you can buy a meal or spend flex dollars; this makes food easy to grab when in a hurry. Then they serve lunch and dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, they open the grill where they make everything cook-to-order. By next semester, we will have a Subway on campus where you will be able to use flex dollars.

There are typical chain fast food restaurants close to campus like McDonald's and Wendy's. A show walk to the main part of town and there's bigger chain restaurants like Panera, Noodles and Co, Chipotle, and Potbelly Subs. Delivery options include Jimmy Johns, local pizza chains, and big name pizza chains (Domino's and Papa John's). There are two healthy/vegan/vegetarian restaurant options close by. And there are locally run restaurants as well.

The computers in the labs are slow and unreliable

I believe my professors are very well versed in their subject matter but I believe that they need remember a full course load comes with a little too much homework combined with expected outside activities (mandatory theatre, service hours and community activities). I am a commuter student and my day starts at 6:30 am and I do not arrive home daily until 8-8:30 pm due to these commitments.
College Freshman 2013-10-01T00:45:36Z
As an education major, the workload and field experience as a freshman is a bit daunting. The outside time restraints are a bit much with classwork, and dance team expectations. I try to manage as best as I can.

I have been very pleased with the financial package that was afforded to me. I had a very pleasant advisor who saw to my needs and explained the process as we went along.

As a commuter student, I make it a point to participate in as many campus events (dance team, musical concerts, community service projects and use the library. There is something for everyone.

As a college freshman, I believe this university is perfect fit for me. As an elementary education major, I have had the opportunity to observe an actual second grade language arts classroom. That experience has shown me first hand what I will be doing as a teacher. Concordia is a smaller university; I have made many friends and had the opportunity to join the dance/cheerleader team something I was never able to do in my large high school. I have been blessed to find a perfect fit for me.

Guys & Girls:
You'll find that there is not a high diversity of race at this school. Majority of the student body is Caucasian. 50% Caucasian, 25% Hispanic 15% African American, 10% Asian. The typical student look for guys are football/baseball t-shirts with either sweat pants or shorts. The girls typical look is jeans with a t-shirt or a print dress. Everyone is either blonde or brunette. There is not much variety.

The internship/job opportunities at Concordia University Chicago are very satisfying, every semester there are workshops for internships in the business college. Also, there are job opportunities for jobs in your major or if you are looking for some extra money. The workload is very fair but it does involve a lot of critical thinking. The programs/events available on campus also are great opportunities to network. Professors also advice students on events coming up that could make finding a job easier or producing a better resume.

Campus dining at Concordia University is nice! You have so many options; eating healthy and cheating on your diet.

The computers are quite nice at Concordia University because they have both Mac&PC. There are I believe 4 computer labs and one of them is open 24/7. :)

Concordia University's campus is unique from other Universities in the Chicago area. Concordia's campus is old, but as soon as you walk the halls and Concordia's grounds, it automatically feels like home.

Concordia offers a number of grade-based scholarships in addition to various athletic, musical, and religious ones. However, Financial Aid is a constant source of grief for students: the office consistently misplaces or omits scholarship amounts and hounds students for small amounts. When I asked them to stop sending me emails regarding a missing scholarship (I already knew the issue and planned to deal with it when I returned to school and explained that to the Financial Aid office), they responded that it was an automatic email and they would not do anything about it. My advice would be to attain as much financial aid as possible from independent sources as well as the school and bring copies of your winnings in order to verify them in case Financial Aid makes a mistake.

There are few restaurants in River Forest, but neighboring Oak Park and Elmwood Park offer a variety of dining options from casual to elegant and featuring numerous culinary and cultural styles. My personal favorites are Penny's Noodle Shop (Pan-Asian cuisine), Johnny's (Italian beef and Chicago hot dogs), Mancini's (Italian and pizza), Burger Boss (a variety of hamburgers), and Old World Pizza (Chicago pizza and Italian. Some restaurants offer student discounts, which is helpful for students with low to no income.

Guys & Girls:
There is a great deal of variety in both sexes at Concordia University Chicago. A number are commuters from the Chicagoland area, but many are from farming communities across the Midwest. We also have a number of students from Florida. I am a resident of Northern California and have found several others who hail from the West Coast. Though it is a Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod university, Concordia is very welcome to members of all faiths and there are a variety of faiths represented by the student body. Most students are well-dressed, interested in sports and music, are very involved in social life both on and off campus, and have healthy relationships.

There are many apartment complexes and houses for rent within a short distance of the school for reasonable rent. Most of the apartments charge only utilities in addition to rent. There is plenty of parking available and the neighborhoods of River Forest, Oak Park, and Elmwood Park are very safe. Most of the housing I looked at last year was a 5 minute drive/15 minute walk from campus, which is very convenient. Concordia also has a housing board in its community center where various rental and housing listings are posted.

Concordia is a dry campus. There are no sororities or fraternities. That being said, there are still parties off campus. It is much easier if you are over 21 because there are many bars nearby and Chicago is very close. 18+ clubs do exist, but they aren't as easy to find. If you want to drink, there are places to do so.
College Junior 2013-08-05T17:11:37Z
Concordia is a small campus, so there isn't any need for transportation throughout the school. However, being so close to Chicago gives us amazing public transportation. The school is a short walk to the Green Line and there are always buses running. Concordia also provides shuttles to the airport and train station before winter break to make it easier for students to get home.
College Junior 2013-07-31T22:35:54Z
The programs are great... however, Concordia is horrible at keeping their accreditations. Even worse, they choose not to communicate the expiration of accreditations to students.
College Junior 2013-07-31T22:34:33Z
As a grad student with a 4.0 GPA i get absolutely nothing from Concordia.

Concordia does a great job welcoming their students
