Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

During high-use times—usually fifteen minutes before classes and several hours after dinner—the computer labs are packed. For this reason the vast majority of students on campus bring their own computers. Most dorms have WiFi access, and every room comes with an Ethernet port. The Information Services staff works round the clock, and they always spring into action when crises strike.

For the most part, the network has few problems. The biggest problem for Conn students is the inconsistency of the library printers. While these printers are never offline for long, they occasionally crash or get paper jams. Fortunately there are two sets of printers in the library. If one set of printers is down, the other is almost always still working, so students are never put in dire situations. Night owls will be happy to know that the main library is open until 2 a.m. most nights, and the majority of students start clearing out at midnight. Unfortunately, the libraries (and consequently the computer labs) close early on Friday and Saturday, often leaving unprepared students stranded with urgent papers and projects.

Technology at Its Finest!

There are multiple computer labs, all filled with the latest Apple software. The printers are in great condition and cheap! It costs $.06 to print a paper and it comes out double sided. You are given a $30 to print for the year. You will never use that much paper up, but the one downfall with the technology is the wireless. Without an ethernet cord, you might as well give up trying to connect with the internet. And even with the ethernet cord, it will take at least 2 min to load a page.

Enough Computers for Most

There's usually enough computers for everyone even during finals. Most have their own computers thought. We have touch screen ones also for some reason.

Computers

We just got new touch-screen computers in the library. They're really awesome, and there is usually more than enough available for anyone to use them at any given time. The administration also upgraded our internet speed recently so it's been pretty good.
