Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Without a doubt, Conn’s poison of choice is alcohol. Students hit the bottle pretty hard on Thursdays and Saturdays, and the bottle hits back, necessitating a full day to nurse hangovers from each bacchanalian night. Frequent kegs and floor parties inspire students to new heights of binge drinking, and by the end of four years, Conn’s graduating class harbors more than a few closet alcoholics. Of course, many students prefer to drink in moderation. Incoming freshmen looking to drink socially will certainly find opportunities to do that. Those who don’t drink at all might have more trouble. There is, however, plenty of substance-free housing and quite a demand for available rooms. Even if you don’t want to live there, you can find friends to hang out with.

Pot is also available on campus and widely used, but students who get high are far more discrete. In fact, if you’re not seeking out people to smoke up with, the only encounter with pot you’re likely to have is the occasional telltale scent emanating from some stoner’s room. Harder drugs are far less visible and less popular, but can be acquired. All in all, if alcohol is discounted, Conn has a minor drug scene, but it’s really not that visible in the day-to-day goings on of the campus or its party scene. Then again, you don’t exactly have to be Sherlock Holmes to uncover it.

It's College

It's no secret that a lot of kids at Conn drink. However the vast majority of them drink fairly safely and drugs, while definitely present, are not a problem. No one really seems to use anything harder than marijuana.

Drugs Are a Rising Problem

The availability of drugs on college campuses is growing and I see it as a problem that will cause more issues in the future. Overall I would give my campus an A for its use on drugs and the lack of peer pressure to try out drugs. I have never had a personal problem but I know of students at other schools who are pressured to use hard drugs such as cocaine because they are not strongly enforced on the campus. Alcohol has always appeared to be a problem and I think with more regulation college campuses can be safer.

After alcohol, I'd say that pot is the most prevalent drug, though I've heard some people do harder stuff. Smoking isn't hard to avoid, and I haven't seen too much pressure to drink, though it depends on the people you are with.
