Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The student center at Conn, diminutively known as Cro, is the heart of campus activity and the best place to look for students or professors between classes. Cro is versatile and includes a bar, snack shop, mailroom, convenience store, dance studios, and meeting space among its facilities. Fortunately, the building is fairly new and everything is well kept. On party nights (typically Thursday and Saturday), it seems like half the school passes through Cro at one point or another. The school usually sponsors dances and concerts in Cro that are well attended by the student body. The athletic center is set to open a new two-story fitness center for the 2009-2010 school year. The fitness center will have new equipment and overlook the track and have views of the river. The Christoffers Rowing/Training Center is nicely equipped and gives Conn’s rowing team an edge over its competition. In addition, there are miles of cross-country track in the arboretum.

Conn’s students are blessed with a visually pleasing campus, which is beautiful in fall and winter. The granite and limestone buildings tie the school together aesthetically without making the architecture boring. Green space is plentiful, and it opens up the small campus. To see Connecticut College at its finest, one only needs to head towards South Campus. Sandwiched in between the South Campus dorms and several academic buildings is the College Green. From soccer matches and Harvestfest booths in the fall to heated pickup games of Ultimate Frisbee in the spring, College Green always hums with activity.

Quite Good

The facilities at Conn are generally pretty good. Some of the older dorms and classrooms could use a little renovation, but overall I'm very pleased with the overall quality of Conn's facilities. Our athletic center is AMAZING!

The athletic center leaves a lot to be desired, but we're in the process of building a new one for the fall, so it will be nice. The dorms vary - some of them are newly renovated, and some are older and less nice, and some are in between. The student center is pretty good. There are a lot of functions there and it has a place to eat.

The athletic center (AC) is about to be expanded, and then it won't be so crowed. I'm really happy with the student center and the library. They are definitely comfortable and well kept.

Favorite Things To Do

Conn students de-stress between classes by hanging out in Harris or heading down to the fitness center. In the afternoon, varsity, club, and intramural sports take the stage and most student's attention away from other activities. At night, there is usually a plethora of meetings and the ubiquitousDessert and Dialogue, which is an invitation for students to get together in a dorm or common room for a dialogue with a special guest moderator. Past subjects of these talks have ranged from ruminations on body image to dissections of Super Bowl commercials.

In between classes, you can work out at the gym, talk a walk in the arboretum, or attend Common Ground, Common hour which is a series of dialogues with experts from the public life and the academy.
