Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

From casual eateries to romantic tables for two, New London and the surrounding towns have some excellent restaurants options. When students get tired of cafeteria food, they flock to local favorites like margaritas, or order MSG-laden noodles from Golden Wok. There are cuisines for every palette and budget in New London County, and no one escapes Conn without finding a new favorite restaurant. When parents should visit, there are plenty of good places to splurge (their treat, of course). If you’re more into chains than the local restaurants, New London also offers a nice variety. Applebee’s, Chili’s, and Outback Steakhouse are not only popular student-favorites in New London, but also across the country to give students a menu that they might be more familiar with. Still, though, you should try new things and at least give local places a chance.

If there’s anything wrong with the local restaurant scene, it’s that students lack a definitive hangout spot close to campus. Getting to New London’s restaurants is difficult without a set of wheels. The Camel Van is an option, though it won’t run late. Unfortunately, as the situation stands now, students need a car to eat off campus.

Some Great Dining Options and Student Discounts

In Downtown New London there are some great dining options various kinds of food to check out that often give great student discounts. Bank Street and State Street have some good places like Muddy Waters Cafe and Northern Indian Restaurant. Also, for great and inexpensive seafood located on the water, check out Captain Scott's Lobster Dock in New London. And for great tapas, check out Cafe 57 Restaurant and Bar. All of these places have great service as well.

New London isn't a very large or collegiate town, but it has some to offer for the student willing to try it out. There are several restaurants other than the obvious pizza and takeout chinese food, some which are quite good. There are a few coffee shops and local art galleries, and probably much more if you know where to look.

It depend what you are looking...

It depend what you are looking for, but I'd say we have a good selection. You may have to drive 20 minutes to Mystic, but it's totally worth it. Mystic has Azu, Bravo Bravo, Rice Spice, and Noodle. Closer by in New London are Brie and Blu, and Bean and Leaf. Then there are restaurants at the mall like Outback Steak House and Chili's and Olive Garden. There are also some good Indian and Chinese places. Thank goodness for Chinese takeout!
