College Prowler Take

Overall, students enjoy their experience at Conn. Some of the most often reasons cited include the amazing professors, strong academic programs, the small size of the school, and the beautiful campus. This is a great school for students who don’t know what they want to major in; Conn’s General Education requirements make it mandatory to take a variety of courses, and faculty are always available to advise students. Because of this, many come to Conn a tabula rasa, unsure of what to study, and leave as knowledgeable practitioners in a field they genuinely enjoy. The most common complaint among students who don’t like Conn is its small size. Because of this, it’s important to visit overnight or at least take a tour to try the campus on for size.

Despite the restricted social scene, most students find a core group of friends and have an unforgettable four years. Besides, with a willingness to try new things, students should never be bored on campus. There are so many opportunities to get involved in athletics, music, academics, and student organizations that everyone should be able to find something that he or she enjoys. The Conn experience can be as much or as little as you make of it. It’s all up to you.

It took a lot of getting used to Conn, because I felt it was so clique-y and such a bubble and isolated from a lot of things. I do like it a lot now, and I met some amazing people. I think I would not run for the college if I could do it all over, but I still think I'd come here. Running took a lot out of me, and I didn't like the atmosphere that much.

Conn is incredible. People here are always open to make new friends, talk about any class or academic subject, or party with you. However, don't let the social life dominate your experience here, because work is the main reason people come here. The classes are great, but you have to go to them. If you study hard, you'll party hard too, and in the end you'll realize you made the right choice coming to Conn.

To be honest, Conn does take a little getting used to. It's very unique compared to other schools. We don't have fraternities and sororities, and some people think the social life is boring and that there's nothing to do on campus. However, I really think those people just aren't trying hard enough. Just like anywhere else, you might have to do some work to find what you really like to do. And I think it's nice that Conn is not a party 24/7, otherwise I'd be way too overwhelmed. I think people are really friendly here, and anyone will help you if you ask.

Because I am from Minnesota, the adjustment to a small, East Coast town was harder than I expected. However, I have grown to absolutely love Conn and all that it has to offer! The opportunities to become involved on campus in a variety of ways are plentiful and allow one to feel very connected to the school. Conn is small, but I love being able to know so many people in my classes, activities, and dorms. It creates an inter-connectedness on campus that is hard to find at larger schools.
