Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Mass transportation is good for two things in New London County: coming and leaving. The Groton-New London Airport is only a short drive from campus, and Greyhound and Amtrak stations are a mere two miles away in downtown New London.

Getting around town is a different story altogether. Students are adamant about needing a car, and it’s easy to see why. Conn’s campus is removed from New London, and public transportation is difficult to access. The college offers a van service called Camel Van for only fifty cents round trip, but it has a limited operating schedule and just doesn’t make up for the lack of transportation options from campus. Fortunately, there are quite a few cars on campus, and it’s not too hard to borrow a friend’s if need be.

Get a Bike!

Almost every student has a car, and subsequently the transportation provided by the school is under-utilized and less reliable. There's a campaign going on now to reduce the cars on campus (it is almost impossible to find a parking spot) and increase the use of services like "the Camel Van" which does a round dropping and picking up students downtown and at the local malls, as well as the zip cars and the local New London bus system. Training to NY or Boston is expensive, but there's another community project trying to bring the commuter rail to New London, which would make it very affortable

Public transportation is horrible....

Public transportation is horrible. You really can't get around anywhere without a car. We have the Camel Van, which students can buy a token for for $1 and ride it to certain stops it makes in the two towns closest to us. However, it has also proved to be unreliable. I do have to say that the transportation is one of the worst things about the school.

There is a Camel Van that runs on a specific schedule and goes into New London, to Target, and to the movies. Otherwise, there are 2 Zip Cars on campus that you can rent for a certain amount of time. The public transportation isn't great here. I have a car, but without it, I would find a friend with one.
