Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

One day is never like the next in New London. The hardest time to pick out clothes in the morning has to be the transition into spring when the temperature vacillates between freezing and warm and it is constantly raining. This, of course, means packing more clothes than for say, Miami. Going home to update your wardrobe from time to time isn’t a bad idea, but don’t worry if you’re too far away to make the trip. As long as your closet is diversified, you’ll make it through the full spectrum of New London weather.

The good news is that winter is mild thanks to Conn’s position on the Long Island Sound. There’s hardly any snow or freezing rain to fight through on your way to class, although the wind coming off the Sound can feel as if it were from the Arctic. When Conn does get a few inches of snow, the campus often shuts down out of safety concerns for incoming faculty, and students get the day off. All-in-all, the weather will keep you on your toes, and the arboretum is beautiful in the fall and winter. Students from warmer regions complain about the weather at Conn, but after a harsh winter they, too, realize that anything above zero degrees Fahrenheit is warm.

Variable and Sunny

Conn is located in New England which mean weather is pretty diverse.

Seeing the campus under snow is magical and snow day doesn't mean that classes will be cancelled.

Classes are very close to the dorms because it is a small campus.

Colds No Fun

Since all the dorms are really spread out, the cold makes it a lot harder and less fun to trudge across campus when its cold and/or snowy out. Therefore, even though people still do it, the fun of being able to run around from one side of campus to the other is gone.

The weather is a little chilly, but it can be really nice in September, April, and May. I would bring a lot of warm clothes, because it seems that most of the academic year is around 40 degrees. It rains quite a bit too, so i would definitely bring some waterproof clothes. We have a beautiful aboretum and greenery, and when the weather gets warm you definitely want appropriate clothes for that.
