Birth Control Available? Yes
Condoms are available in the student health center and cost 3 for $0.50— paid on the honor system. St. Luke's Family Planning Clinic comes to campus about twice a month and provides other forms of contraception, with fees based on income. Pregnancy tests and emergency contraception are also available at the health center.
Best Places to Meet Guys & Girls
  1. Parties and classes are by far the best places to meet potential dates.
  2. Classes at Cornell present a unique opportunity to meet a variety of people due to the block plan. Changing classes every three and a half weeks also means the potential to meet 10 to 25 new people each block.
Best Places to Hook Up Parties and the bars are where most hookups happen for one obvious reason—alcohol. However, be careful, because on a campus as small as Cornell's, "secret" hookups never stay secret.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

You won’t find many Abercrombie underwear models wandering Cornell’s campus. In fact, the running joke is that when students come to campus, they put on “Cornell Goggles” and their standards drop. But it’s really not that bad.

There are plenty of attractive people of either sex, whether your taste runs to preps or jocks or pirates. The party scene results in its share of hookups, while more sober social interactions often spark long-term relationships. Changing courses each month presents a unique opportunity to meet new people or potential love interests. Cornell is generally more sexually promiscuous than it is reserved, but only slightly. Lax policies regarding visitors and overnight guests in residence halls leave it up to the students to make decisions regarding where they sleep and with whom.

Diversity

This year I am a freshman and there are people of all parts of the globe. We have students from Brazil, China, Japan, and I believe there are students from 40 out of 50 states etc. You have students that are socially declined and ones that are socially inclined like myself. Some do not have swag and some do.

Geeky, Insane, Athletic, Nerdy, Hot, We Have Them All.

Cornell covers the spectrum. You have the girls who look like they are about to go work the corner all the way to the girls who just grab what looks comfortable from the closet even if it is not the most fashion forward thing (or went out of fashion sometime in the late 1700's}. Guys are equally divers, you have your boys in their track suits and in their douche bag shirts. Skinny jeans and sweaters are the norm for both genders.

The running joke is that you have to put on "Cornell Goggles" when you come. Honestly this is just nonsense. The boys and girls while not super models (thou some are professional strippers)are generally quite good looking. The thing one should be more concerned with is their personality. Guys tend to be a little stand-off-ish while the girls tend to lean to the touchy feely side. Also relationships move quite fas in that a week at Cornell is appropriately a month in a normal relationship.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The Cornell social scene is certainly eclectic. On average, students are outgoing, but often stay confined to specific groups of friends. Most students could draw a map of what groups sit where in the dining hall.
That said, social interaction between groups does exist, most often at parties or other events. Drinking is a big part of the social scene, but you don't have to drink to have fun here.

Hookups or Relationships?

Cornell is an interesting mix of random hookups and serious relationships, without a whole lot in between. The block plan creates a sort of time warp that speeds up the way relationships develop. A relationship that would ordinarily last an entire semester can run its course in one three-and-a-half-week block.

Dress Code

The dress code is pretty much anything goes at Cornell. In class or the dining hall, you'll see everything from PJs and sweats to dresses and ties. Stick around long enough and you're likely to see a pirate costume or medieval gown, as well. Theme parties are pretty popular in the Greek community, and most girls "get cute" when they go out to the bars.
