By and large, students agree that one of the best things about Creighton’s academics is the dedication of faculty. Students feel that most of their teachers really seem to care. Open-door policies, quick e-mail responses, and general concern for both academic progress and personal happiness have students singing their teachers’ praises. The generally small class sizes also help; students in majors that have more students per class typically express less satisfaction with their educational experiences and greater detachment from professors. Students also agree that most classes have heavy workloads, which is to be expected from college. However, it can be surprising to discover that a relatively little-known school is so challenging. Here, you can’t expect to spend as much time partying as your state school counterparts when there are so many chapters to read each night. The Jesuit tradition prepares students for the real world by showing them many different approaches to considering ideas and solving problems. Students are personally invested in their own education here—you can go through the motions and get a degree anywhere, but Creighton will bend and challenge your brain. An important component of making this education so thorough is the buffet of basic requirements—the liberal education all students receive. At the base is a broad spectrum of classes that involve learning in various ways, from the logic of philosophy to the analysis of literature to the inquiry of theology. For those who seek a comprehensive education that teaches “the whole person,” Creighton is just right.

Every faculty member on campus...
Every faculty member on campus wants you to succeed. Every last one of them will take time out to help you, provided you are doing your workload. Creighton is very difficult academically—expect to spend many hours doing homework. Creighton is not the place to go if you want to party every night or not spend many hours doing homework. Students here are very focused. The average GPA is a 3.4, and that's not because the profs are easy.

The teachers are fine, although some, especially in the classes that don't count toward a major, need to relax. These teachers need to realize some students just don't care about things like psychology and philosophy.

The science department teachers are great! I'm a chemistry major, and I'm fortunate enough to have teachers who really understand the material. The workload is pretty big, yet it's optional, so its up to the student. Creighton University is really known for its sciences.

Teachers are tough, which is reflective of how good the education is at Creighton. When you say, "I go to Creighton," there is an automatic thought that goes through peoples' heads: "That kid is not only smart, but he/she knows how to manage time very well."

The teachers are decent—I personally like the Jesuit teachers. The workload isn't too horrible, but there's a lot of reading involved. Creighton is known for its medical-related majors.

Did You Know?Creighton students come from more than 40 different countries. More than 95 percent of Creighton graduates are employed, involved in volunteer work, or attending graduate or professional school within six months of graduating. Several departments offer courses that integrate a semester-long community service project into academic work. Creighton requires that students take four certified writing courses before graduation—so if you don’t come here with strong writing abilities, you’ll leave with them. Most departments have upperclassmen or graduate student tutors who provide free help at student-friendly hours. What is a core curriculum? Creighton’s core curriculum is designed in the Jesuit tradition. Its purpose is to provide a broad base of general knowledge in different areas, as well as teach students how to think from the backdrop of different disciplines. Theology, philosophy, English, math, science, and social science are among those required to ensure that the Creighton education is a well-rounded one. The downside of the core is that it makes fitting all those classes and the classes needed for your major into four years somewhat difficult.
