College Prowler Take
In Kiewit, many students smell a persistent odor of mold and gym socks and are constantly catching people making out in common areas. In Deglman, the all-female dorm, ladies learn that single-sex living might mean brighter hallways and fresher smells, but it also means catfights and running into men during all hours of the night. Each sophomore dorm has its advantages. McGloin is the hands-down winner for its design and space—four students share a two-bedroom suite with a bathroom, living area, and kitchenette that includes a fridge and microwave. Swanson is also suite-style, but its suites are doubles that share a bathroom between four roommates. However, its benefit is that it is slightly more central to campus, meaning residents can wake up five precious minutes later. Time is by far the greatest advantage of any on-campus housing, which is why many choose to stay on campus, even after the required freshman and sophomore years end. Although upperclassmen dorms Davis Square and Opus Square may be a bit expensive ($570 per person for a four-bedroom, four-person apartment that includes two bathrooms, a kitchen, and living room), utility costs are included, and living on campus saves gas money. While certain freshman residence hall rooms contain fewer square-footage per person than the state of Nebraska requires for penitentiary inmates, most students are thrilled with their humble cells. Campus housing is a great place to bond, and it’s unlikely you’re going to find yourself short a battery or dinner buddy any time of day.

The dorms are pretty nice. Every dorm is separated by gender by either floor or wing. The freshman halls hold a lot of students and are all fairly average dorm-room size with community-style bathrooms. Community-style isn't fun at first, but you soon realize a lot of the people you meet from your hall are people you see on the way to and from the restroom. Sophomore halls at Creighton are either suite-style with two bedrooms and a connecting bathroom or apartment-style. All the on-campus upperclassman dorms are apartment living. Overall, there is a great selection of on-campus living at Creighton.

The dorms are Creighton are decent. I live in Kiweit, the largest dorm for freshmen, and personally like it. It almost forces me to interact and talk to lots of different people. The rooms are normal sized with closets, a sink, and a cabinet—it's all you need freshman year. And as the years progress, the dorms get nicer. Each year, new dorms are being added for upperclassman, so I just keep looking ahead. The nice thing about Kiewit is that it is in the middle of campus, right next the fitness center, and has its own dining hall. Not bad for a dorm!

The freshman housing is kind of unattractive, but there is a great community atmosphere. The upperclassmen have better-looking dorms, but there is less of a community atmosphere. The newer apartment style dorms are not built very well but are a good option for on-campus living for upperclassmen.

Previously, free choices were largely limited to educational networks, Lifetime, and a ton of foreign language channels. The University recently opened a new upperclassman residence hall, Opus Square, designed to be similar to Davis Square, which has spacious apartments, but the convenience of living in a residence hall on campus.
