College Prowler Take
Whether it’s about the price or pure dislike of the dorms, many Creighton students choose to live off campus. Those with bigger pocketbooks (or parents paying the way) are more inclined to choose places in the Old Market, such as the Old Market Lofts, which are usually clean, quiet, and secure. The posh palaces include rooftop pools, hot tubs, and exercise studios that rival membership gyms. Some downtown apartments are decently priced, especially if you have roommates, and restaurants and other entertainment is right outside the door. Another safe place to find an apartment is anywhere a little farther west. Those who live on the interstate but out west, get the best of both worlds—safer neighborhoods and short travel time. Students choosing to live in the neighborhoods immediately surrounding campus in some of the cheaper houses often have the most fun and enjoy being able to actually throw parties. There are non-University-recognized sorority and fraternity houses in those areas, too. While rent may be cheaper, it has its costs—break-ins are more common, and students have to take care of yard work and pay utilities. Many don’t feel like bothering with such mundane things while they're busy studying the exciting worlds of their chemistry books. Essentially, though, it’s not too difficult to find a place to live in Omaha. The city has good housing and job markets that makes living beyond Creighton doable. Just don’t scrimp on safety for the purpose of saving a few bucks—after your insurance rates go up after the third break-in that year, you’ll wish you’d picked someplace with card-access only.

It's not worth it—Creighton has such a small campus and the dorms are centrally located. I would recommend the dorm life to get to know people faster.

I love where I live. One of my professors is my neighbor, which was weird at first, but now it’s kind of cool that a student can end up living in as good a place as a professor. |
