Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nebraska is a state of change when it comes to the temperature and elements. Every year, the leaves change colors, the ground and tree branches freeze, the clouds pour rain, and the sun burns. Sometimes, that seems to happen all in one day. If you like to experience all kinds of weather, then you’ll find happiness here. Nebraska’s weather is all over the map. There are even tornado warnings from time to time, when students head to their dormitory basements or stairwells to hide from the swirling storm winds. But, don’t be misled: The extreme climate can be really frustrating and painful. Next to the sometimes monotony of Omaha, the worst thing about this location is the weather. Nebraska has major bipolar weather problems, readily swinging from the summery 70s in the morning to snowflakes by nightfall at certain times of year.

However, if you love digging your car out of a snowbank and mushing through slush to get to class but also don’t mind sweating through literature class every now and again, you’ll be satisfied. If you like endless sun or any moderation of temperature whatsoever, you are quite out of luck. Omaha’s wacky weather can be completely obnoxious. However, it keeps things interesting. You actually get to wear both your tank tops and your sweaters, sometimes in the same day. And, all things considered, the severity of the weather is rarely really life-threatening. It’s just annoying for those who like consistency. If you like surprise, you’ll love Nebraska’s climate.

Change Frequently

It is hot and sunny on one day, then cold and rainy on another. Sometimes we got cool thunderstorms, but usually come at night. Eh, no that bad, just check the weather and temperature before you leave your dorm.

Bi-Polar Weather

The summers are hot and humid and the winters are windy and always cold. There are some days in the spring and fall where there might be a day with 70+ weather and two days later its in the 30s. Overall, the weather is to be expected since the school is in the midwest. Luckily, since most of the classes are up on the main part of campus walking to and from classes is not too bad when its below freezing and the grounds crew keeps the sidewalks and walkways cleared of any snow and ice.
