Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are several dozen security officers at Baruch, but some are tougher enforcers than others. You will rarely witness a student who is heavily intoxicated, but you can sometimes spot a tipsy student re-entering Baruch after drinking at Fitzgerald's Pub. The main issue students have is the College's inability to keep smokers away from building entrances. To be fair, you can occasionally observe a security office shooing a smoking student from the 23rd Street building entrance, but students say not enough is being done to tackle the problem.

A few incidents aside, most Baruchians behave responsibly, so there's no real reason to tighten campus strictness. The bad news is for students who illegally download files from the Internet because the College has a strict policy against using peer-to-peer file sharing software. And don't think you can get away with it—the school is able to detect such activity on its network. The school also has a strict policy on who can get into Baruch buildings and who stays out. The entrances to the Vertical Campus and 23rd Street building, for example, are restricted to students, staff members, and announced guests, all of whom must show their ID cards. The Vertical Campus building features turnstiles, and there's a guard in the 23rd Street building who checks IDs. In both buildings, it's necessary to announce your guests to the school's administration. For instance, if you are an officer in a student club and want to bring a guest speaker to campus, you must inform the Office of Student Life about the visit and wait until they send a memo to the security desk. However, this policy doesn't prevent some students from "swiping in" their friends from time to time, especially during rush hours when the guards can't keep an eye on everyone. The school has warned, however, that sneaky visitors will get evicted.

Campus Strictness

There is not really any campus strictness. The campus is one building so as long as you get into the building, they really dont say anything to you.

Firm Management

Baruch is pretty firm, but they're not too strict. It's a pretty liberal school giving the students a decent amount of freedom. But if you mess up, then you're going to the dean.

Easy

The positive of a city college, police force is low because there is no need to supervise when everyone is constantly in and out and barely hang around the school. There is an entire play ground outside the school that campus doesn't need to be strict.

Visitation Policies

Students who live in the residence hall can have no more than two guests at a time due to maximum occupancy fire codes. Guests must sign in at the security desk and show a photo ID. All guests must leave by 11 p.m. unless an overnight pass has been signed by a security officer.

In terms of bringing non-Baruch students onto campus, it's necessary to let the school administration know beforehand.
