Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Unless driving a car is an absolute necessity, it's best to just forget about this method of transportation when commuting to Baruch. You often can't drive four blocks in less than 10 minutes due to traffic congestion, so how easily do you expect to find a parking space in Manhattan? Luckily, there are many trains and buses that can make your trip a breeze in comparison to driving through the jam-packed streets and avenues. Some students—especially those who live far from subway stations or outside of New York City—have been known to drive from their house to the bus or train station and leave their car there. This can also save some commuting time.

It's possible, however, to park your car around Baruch if you're lucky. You may end up circling the area to find an available parking meter, but it can be done. It will cost you as much as $1 per hour. If you don't like to carry coins, you can purchase a parking card that you can use in some areas of the city. Watch out for signs that restrict parking—you can get a hefty ticket for leaving your vehicle in the wrong place or at the wrong time. Parking options are not restricted to the meters, however. There are private lots and garages not far from Baruch, but these can cost hefty flat fees. However, if  you insist on driving, there are some long-term passes available for purchase, which might make things a little easier, even though it's by no means cheap.

NYC Parking

Parking in NYC is terrible. You can barely park anywhere and even if you find a spot, you're almost guaranteed that by the time you get to it, someone already took it.

MTA All the Way

Who would want to drive to Baruch College when the college itself is located on Lexington Avenue and 24th Street? There is so much traffic in the city, and taking the 6 train to 23rd street is the best way to commute. It is very rare to find any parking space near the school, unless you pay for a parking spot separately.

Awful Parking

There is no parking on campus, and if there is, you need to put quarters in every hour. If you leave your car in a parking garage, it costs more than $60.

Getting a Parking Permit

Baruch is in the heart of New York City, which means there isn't room for an on-campus parking lot or college-issued permits. Students who drive must find a municipal lot or street parking. Just make sure to obey all rules, or you'll receive a hefty ticket from the city.
