Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The temperatures in New York fluctuate—on average, they get as low as 25 degrees in the winter and as high as 85 in the summer. It can also be very unpredictable at times, so maintaining a flexible wardrobe can help you keep up with fluctuations. Making a year-round friendship with an umbrella is another good idea, as it can sometimes rain in the winter. Bringing a pair of boots is helpful too because in the winter, you might end up battling a snow blizzard on your way to school. If you like snow, you might want to bring your ski equipment and clothing. If Central Park doesn't have enough snow, you can travel to one of the local skiing resorts like Hunter and Belleayre mountains. Both have good slopes and snow machines.

If you're coming to live in New York for the first time, pack a full set of clothes. For steamy, summer days, you'll need breathable shirts or T-shirts, as well as light pants or skirts. And don't forget to pack a hat and sunglasses, as well as sunscreen. You'll need good protection from the sun not only on a daily basis, but in case you plan to hit the nearby beaches. New York State has nice beaches; some popular ones are Jones Beach and Fire Island. Another item to pack for the warmer seasons is a light sweater or a hoodie—while it can be unbearably hot outside, the temperature can contrast sharply with the air-conditioned subway cars, buses, and Baruch classrooms. When it's cool in the fall and spring, you'll need interseasonal clothes that can be worn based on the changing weather. When it gets really cold—especially toward the winter holidays—you'll be well off with a warm, heavy jacket, a hat, and a pair of gloves.

Manageable

Weather in New York can be brutal but once your on campus, all the classes you need to get to are generally in the same building so it isn't too much of a hassle

No matter what the weather conditions are, classes continue. I work near the college, which allows me to make sure I do not miss any important information or fall behind in any subject.
