Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Hunter recently changed the layout of its cafeteria so that all students pay at one of four registers and walk around the third floor of the West Building to eat their food in a large, aerated, less gloomy room, as opposed to the cafeteria attached to the kitchen. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat during peak hours, get something from the vending machines. Other than its clumsy reconstruction, the cafeteria offers a lot of quality meals, from your standard sandwiches to Indian food and sushi (made by real sushi chefs). The cafeteria also offers packaged foods for on-the-go students and a coffee/tea stand with affordable premium roasts.

Food at the cafeteria is somewhat affordable, as trying to get the same quality at any restaurant around Hunter is a lot more expensive and aimed at office staff—not necessarily college students. Overall, the cafeteria staff is friendly, and the food is edible and cheap—that's all most students need. However, many students prefer to bring their own meals and heat them using microwaves in the cafeteria or in the Student Resource Center. The café also offers kosher meals and healthy choices like plain salads or fruit bowls for vegetarians/students watching their diet. In addition to this, there is a Starbucks stand in the West Lobby for students who don't mind paying more for their morning caffeine fix/evening pick-me-up in between classes. The café closes early on Fridays and is not open on weekends.

Food Poison

The food here is atrocious. I have numerous friends get food poisoning from the sushi and pizza. Everything is so overpriced, many people just eat outside.

Acceptable

The dining options on campus are acceptable and satisfactory. You are easily able to get a quick meal during a short break. Vegetarian as well as Non vegetarian food is available for students. Students also have a different choice of meal everyday. I would suggest buying a meal from campus whenever you're in a hurry. As Hunter is located in the City, if you have a long break you can always walk to really good restaurants around the Campus. So Students usually don't have any problems with their meal.

Special Options The food carts parked outside of the North and West buildings are a blessing to many students. For between $5 and $7, students can feast on pretzels, a hot meal of rice, some type of meat and a salad, falafels, gyros, Philly cheesesteaks, etc. In the morning, you can pick up a sandwich and decently-made coffee from the food carts, and if you're eating healthy, get a fruit salad or whole fruit from the fruit stand outside the West Building.
