Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Hunter's dorms are about a 20- to 30-minute drive away from main campus. The dorms are part of the Brookdale Health Sciences campus, and all of the rooms are single-occupancy rooms furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, and chair. While students may not experience bonding with a roommate, residents share bathrooms, and a kitchen is located on every floor, so students have their own space but can easily mix with other students when they want to. The dorm staff does try to build a sense of community with monthly meetings and activities.

The dorms have an indoor swimming pool, tennis court, and bowling alley, as well as a convenient location near the East River. The dorm also has a small cafeteria that's open during the day; other than that, students are expected to cook their own meals. While the dorms are relatively affordable, only a select few students' applications are accepted since space is limited. The dorm population consists of students in the honors program, athletes, foreign exchange students, and a few out-of-state students. Space in the dorms is only guaranteed for two years, after which students have to find apartments near Hunter or in other boroughs.

Bang for Your Buck

The Brookdale campus is small community. The residence life here tries to give as many opportunities for us to bond and make the best of our little housing building. The security is very tight so we are always safe however it makes having visitors such a hassle.

Campus Housing

If you decide to attend, your best bet might be to find an apartment on your own. Housing is incredibly difficult to guarantee.

A Majority of Hunter Students Don't Live on Campus

Almost all students take the subway to Hunter College. Since the subway station is right in front of the school, it is the most convenient way to travel.
