Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Each year sees progress regarding Hunter’s computer resources, whether it's wireless in the dorm or more computers on campus. It’s usually easy to find a free computer, or at least, the wait isn’t too bad. You can also borrow a laptop from the fourth floor of the library for free, and there are also computers available at the downtown dorm.

All buildings have Wi-Fi, and the Internet connection is usually fast. There are computer labs on the 10th floor of the West Building, on the second floor of Thomas Hunter, and on most floors of the library. Labs are equipped with Macs and PCs, so you can use whatever system you prefer. All computers usually have academic programs ranging from SPSS to Microsoft Word installed on them. There are also computers kiosks in the East and West buildings. In the Student Resource Center, you can print 300 free pages every semester, and you can scan documents for free in the library. The lab often has long lines and faulty printers, so if you're in a hurry, it's best to print elsewhere. It is also advisable to never save your work on a computer at Hunter, as all documents are deleted every day. For online registration for classes, it’s always best to either bring a laptop or to try and locate a free one in the library’s basement.

Labs Are Usually Crowded Midday

The computer labs at Hunter College are usually crowded during the middle of the day since many students take classes in the afternoon. There is also a research priority for computers, so you might not get the chance to use one. That's why most people bring their own laptops. The WiFi has really good speed and reliability, so I strongly suggest bringing one only if you need to work on something important or if you have long breaks in between classes.
