Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are a few Greek organizations at Hunter College that cater to individuals with all sorts of interests. There are honors societies like Psi Chi for psychology students, service sororities like Zeta Phi Alpha, and multicultural fraternities like Nu Phi Delta; there's even a coed service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega. However, Greek life at a commuter college is really difficult to organize (after all, the main point of belonging to a sorority or fraternity is actually living in a house with other members). Although Hunter has a few sororities and fraternities, most of them are not very active, and their presence on campus is largely limited to fliers and occasional bake sales.

Inside the organizations, however, lie a plethora of opportunities, which Hunter’s sororities and fraternities have not yet been successful in opening up to the campus. Some Greek organizations have causes (like illiteracy and breast cancer) that they are dedicated to ending. Such organizations host parties, shows, and such to fund these projects. Unfortunately, such events usually take place outside of the campus and are often not advertised on campus, which makes "regular" Hunter students question the existence of Greek life on campus. Basically, Greek life at Hunter College does exist and is slowly getting more vibrant, but you just have to watch out for fliers advertising the different organizations at the start of each semester.

Getter better but not there yet.

Hunter Greek life is okay, but it's not amazing. In the last few years there has been only one 2 notable fraternities even worth joining, and that's Alpha Phi Omega and Kappa Sigma, the one reason being that they are national fraternities. However, Alpha Phi Omega is the only service fraternity and it's co-Ed and Kappa Sigma is the only international social all male fraternity. For men at hunter college they can join APO and kappa sig and really take advantage of the benefits of being national. Women who want to reap the beenfits of a national organization can only join APO since its co-Ed. Other than that there isn't really much that Greek life can offer to women since all the sororities are all local. Oh also heads up... Everyone except the national orgs haze I see shenanigans all the time, it's fun to watch but still hazing. Well there's Greek life at hunter choose wisely.

Greek Unity Needs to Be Worked on

I feel like there is a lot of "rivalry" in a way between particular greeks. For the most part, the Greek get along except for a couple ones. I believe Greek unity is very important, and the members of each greek could work harder to reach out to one another.
