Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With the installation of new turnstiles and reinforcement of security measures around Hunter, students on campus feel safer, and the College's rep as an unsafe school has gradually been eliminated. Students generally feel safe on campus. There is always a crowd around Hunter, and when there isn't there are security guards at stations around campus to add to the aura of safety and comfort. This, however, does not mean that a wallet left unattended will not get stolen, or that wandering in the library's basement or empty floors at night is a good idea. Like any campus, a measure of common sense and risk assessment is necessary for students to remain safe, so don't leave things lying around without asking someone to watch over it, or go in to lonely parts of the library without a friend.

Health Services is located on the fourth floor of the North Building and offers physical examinations, vaccinations, emergency on-campus care, as well as health information regarding issues like sexual health, cancer, eating disorders, stress management, and free condoms.

Safest. Place. Ever!

All of the buildings in Hunter's main campus are connected which means if you need to go to a different building, you never have to worry about being robbed or jumped in the streets. There are security guards in front of all the entrances and exits to the buildings as well as machines that only allow you to go in if you have a Hunter ID, so no need to worry about stranger danger! And if you're taking a night class, don't worry about muggers! The train station is connected to one of the buildings so you can go home safely.

Health and Security

The health and security at Hunter College is not that bad, but it's not amazing either. I never felt actual danger, but I did get my wallet stolen in the library before. I told the police about it and they said this happens a lot and that they try to contact the students back if they ever find their stuff. Of course, that rarely happens. Also, even though we swipe our cards to enter the school, there are still many people who are not students who roam around the school. This is due to students swiping friends in, and people who left the school and still have the card can still access entrance into the school facilities as well. Can be pretty shady. At one point, the school had a homeless person living off club food. Eventually he was found and taken away, but still not a good thing.

You Must Have Your ID Card to Swipe Into Every Building

It's pretty safe on campus, I've never felt endangered even though I took a lot of evening courses. You need your ID card to basically get everywhere, including the library even if you're already in the physical building. It's also in a safe neighborhood.
