Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Hunter College is a lot like New York City itself. There are many things to keep students entertained, and most students prefer to spend their free time in the surrounding area or to take the trains to wherever they want to shop, eat, watch a movie, or just hang out. For most of the areas around the school (and Manhattan in general), safety is not an issue, as the streets are often filled with people.

To the north and south of Hunter are large stores like Bloomingdale's, H&M, and Victoria's Secret, as well as bookstores, coffeehouses, cinemas, libraries, and a multitude of restaurants that serve everything from unique salads to Indian food. To the west is Central Park, the Lincoln Center, and a ton of museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. To the east is the East River and large stores like The Food Emporium. There are a wide variety of things that students can do around Hunter, but students can also take MTA buses or trains to other boroughs or to the Lower East Side where prices are more student friendly. Schooling in the middle of Manhattan definitely has its perks, and while prices may be on the high side for students' budgets, many places around the city offer discounts to students with an ID (some museums also let students in for free).
