Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Since Hunter's dorm only houses about 600 out of more than 20,000 students who attend Hunter, it's not uncommon to find "roommate wanted" ads around campus. Finding an apartment within walking distance from Hunter is almost impossible, unless your family happens to own a really expensive apartment on the Upper East Side. However, students who don't live with their parents or at Brookdale tend to rent apartments in Queens or Brooklyn, making their daily commute to Hunter between 20 and 45 minutes.

The quality of apartments really depends on the neighborhood. Many students prefer to live in the East Village and other neighborhoods that offer a comfortable environment designed for young people like college students. When the cost of an apartment is split with a roommate or two, it becomes relatively affordable, especially if it is only a few minutes away from Hunter. Finding an apartment is a somewhat annoying and frustratingly long process, so it's recommended that you start early, look through Hunter's Alternative Housing website, and put up an ad advertising for a roommate even before you find an apartment so that you have someone to look at potential homes with.

Close and Affordable

The Housing services in New York City are incredible! The college itself provides housing services near and around the college that are affordable, convenient and safe as well! Although applications are on a Lottery basis and is quite difficult to get into, there are tons of other options that satisfy one just the same!

Plenty of Space, but It Is Pricey

Hunter is located in New York City. There are plenty of housing options but it depends on your budget. IF you a low income student like myself, off campus housing in new york is not a good idea.
