Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Being a student in New York City automatically means that you are always part-pedestrian, part-dependent on public transportation. The weather in New York is pretty average, but it can get extreme during the winter, so forget leisurely strolls through Manhattan to get to class. Expect to be padded up with heavy jackets, gloves, scarves, and boots instead. Spring is a lot more bearable, although it's advisable to buy a tiny umbrella and leave it in your school bag/purse in case of unexpected showers (which you will inevitably get caught in while walking to school or back home). Summer gets pretty intense, and the city’s sidewalks don't make the heat any more bearable; however, attending school 10 minutes away from Central Park does mean that you'll be able to laze under real trees and hang out with friends in the park whenever it gets really hot.

Because most students commute to school (using the 6 train, which stops right under Hunter), they are able to avoid having to deal with the weather most of the day, since Hunter has covered bridges to get from one building to another. In other words, New York City weather is not awesome, but Hunter College students do not have to deal with it so much.

Pretty Good

During Winter the weather at Hunter is pretty good. I prefer not to go out of Campus during my breaks because walking in the ice and snow can sometimes get really annoying. If It's a rainy weather then people usually just prefer spending time on the Bridge. The Bridge is one of the most important place where everyone spends their time. In summer everyone heads out to Central Park which is a 5 minute walk from Hunter. It feels great to have everything located around your college campus.

Spring Is Lovely

Of course being in NYC the weather changes drastically, but as usual winters are freezing and summers are incredibly hot. Spring and Fall are by far the best seasons in NYC. If it does snow in winter, classes usually end up canceled if the Subway system is down. Snow is not a problem here, the buildings are right across from each other and there's even a bridge connecting each building so there's no need to step out campus unless you are leaving.

New York City

There have been a couple snow days in the past, but just like everyone else in New York, you brave the weather and do what you got to do. However, summer in NYC is a beautiful thing.
