Lehman offers an incredible college experience, despite the fact that it isn’t a boarding campus. Lehman’s history is rich (it was originally called Hunter Uptown and used to be a site for the UN), and the campus is gorgeous and regularly featured in commercials (the most recent one being a Verizon commercial). Students who wish to succeed academically can do so at Lehman because the professors are dedicated and passionate, and students have the freedom to mold their own curriculum. Each department has its own distinct personality; for example, the English department is known for having quirky students. There are also honors programs in each department (for those who are academically ambitious).
At Lehman, there are so many opportunities to take advantage of, such as the CUNY/Paris Exchange, which is a study abroad program that Lehman students can apply for if they have taken three semesters of French. The cost of tuition is the same as CUNY, and students enroll at the University of Paris and can either rent or do a home-stay. Students on financial aid have their tuition covered when studying abroad, and Lehman students are eligible to apply to all CUNY study abroad programs. Students can apply for internships or jobs through Lehman, and can join many volunteering programs (such as Peer Health Exchange), join any of the various clubs on campus, or start their own (submit a proposal, and find a faculty sponsor and at least 10 members in order for the club to be approved). Students at Lehman have access to all of CUNY’s resources, as well as New York City’s resources (which many classes utilize); thus, the Lehman student learning playground isn’t confined to just campus—it extends to all of New York City.
