College Prowler Take
Dartmouth is one of those rare schools where students don’t complain too vociferously about the quality of campus food. Generally, students appreciate the dining options available on campus and happily frequent most of them. While the selections at Food Court are certain to get old at some point, other options Homeplate (read: nutritious) or Courtyard Café (read: greasy) just might make you forget about mama’s homemade tuna casserole. Variety, flexibility, and convenience are the name of the game with Dartmouth Dining Services. Students can eat at any of Dartmouth’s on-campus dining facilities at virtually any time of the day or night—except during the really obscure hours of the early morning, there is usually at least one place to open on campus. Moreover, students can spend their declining balance accounts—DBAs—however they choose. This means that there’s no compelling monetary reason to wake up for breakfast if you don’t have class until 2 p.m. and you’re not really a morning person anyway—just spend your money on an extra big lunch! The food is expensive and all items are sold a la carte, but savvy students quickly learn how to stretch their DBA.

There's a wide range of food on campus. Thayer's grill line is pretty extensive, the hot line has rotating specials every day, and there's a sandwich line and salad bar. It's pretty well done overall, but healthy is subjective. Home Plate has classier variations of the above, and it's more comfortable to sit down with people here. Pavillion has a kosher/Halal option. It's usually very good, and the fresh baked cookies are a must. Courtyard Cafe—the Hop—has eggs and breakfast done any way you want all day, as well as a really good sandwich line.

Food is expensive but good. Food...
Food is expensive but good. Food Court (Foco) is open late, so you can usually pick up some good late-night study snacks. A wide variety of food is offered at Dartmouth. There are some other good restaurants off campus, too, including Yama (a Japanese and Korean restaurant), Boloco (a burrito restaurant), and the infamous pizzeria EBAs.

The food is one of the best...
The food is one of the best aspects of being a college student at Dartmouth. Inside Thayer dining hall alone, there are tons of options, including a grill and sandwich bar area, an exquisite Kosher dining section, an upscale specialized-entree section, a smoothie and juice bar, and a small College-owned convenience store. Food Court is the most popular dining option for students, generally serving American food, like cheeseburgers (and they are delicious burgers at that). The smoothie bar, the Blend, is also a tremendously popular option. Best of all, you can charge all food to your student card without having to worry about how many meals you have available. |

The food here is actually really good. I’m a fairly picky eater (and a vegetarian), and I have never had trouble eating on campus. The DBA system is far better than any other meal plan system. |
