Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dartmouth College and the town of Hanover are serviced by two major interstate highways: 91 and 89. White River Junction, Vermont, about a 10-minute drive south of Hanover, is a major Amtrak junction for all of northern New England. There is also a Greyhound bus station in White River where, for a reasonable fare, students can make traveling arrangements for destinations across the country. Greyhound-affiliated Vermont Transit transports students to locations as near as the Dartmouth Skiway and as distant as New York or Montreal. Vermont Transit buses also run to Manchester Airport, while Dartmouth Coach has a nonstop run directly to Boston’s Logan International. Most Vermont Transit and Dartmouth Coach buses depart from the Hanover Inn, just south of the Green. Lebanon Municipal Airport is just a few short miles from campus, but flights are iffy and quite expensive. Local Advance Transit commuter buses are free to students, but sluggish at best. Hitching a ride from a friend remains the best way to get around the Upper Valley, hands down.

Most students don’t have a problem getting around campus on foot or sometimes by bike—it’s a pretty tiny place, after all. Consider how remote Hanover is before making traveling arrangements—despite accessible public transit and airports, a bus ride and a couple of connecting flights make for a grueling day of traveling.

On Campus

Living on campus is basically the only option. There's literally nothing else in the surrounding area, and the public transportation system is limited at best. Basically, useless.

Small Campus

Small campus so no need to have a car to get around. Not too many things to do off campus anyway except maybe go to west leb and go to walmart. The advance transit will take you to west leb though so again a car is not necessary. Parking is limited anyway.
