College Prowler Take

While students realize that drugs are available on campus, most agree that you won’t hear much about them unless you actively seek them out. Marijuana is the most widely used, while harder drugs appear much less frequently. Students have been known to complain about the smell of pot smoke wafting through the halls of a couple of the dorms but other than that, there’s really not much of a problem.

Generally speaking, Davidson is much more of an alcohol campus than a drug campus, and most narcotic use takes place pretty discretely. Even so, it’s not that infrequent to hear about kids getting busted in dorm rooms or basements of frat houses, usually for smoking weed. While drugs are available to those who want them, you definitely won’t be bothered by any sort of drug culture on campus if you don’t want to be.

Drugs are here just like they are at every college, but it's very limited. Yes, you can get it if you go looking for it, but in no way is it a large part of campus life. In general, our campus lives a pretty healthy lifestyle, and drugs just don't really fit in with that scene.

About 70 percent of kids drink regularly. Pot is relatively common, but usually well-hidden, among the men on campus (slightly less than half). Some girls use pot, but it's not very noticeable. Hard drugs are used but are mainly restricted to Pi Kappa Alpha brothers and a small handful of others. They are usually used off-campus and are not a noticeable part of campus life.

The main drug one will find on campus is marijuana. Alcohol is still the favorite, however. Many people here don’t even view alcohol as a drug.

I’m a bit naïve, so I didn’t realize that there was a drug scene until I spent time with some frat guys last year.

From what I’ve experienced, there isn’t much of a drug scene on campus. I have never been offered marijuana at Davidson and have not even heard about the use of more hard-core drugs. I was exposed to more drugs in high school than I have been in college. I’ve talked to people who say they sometimes smoke weed, but I’ve never seen anyone doing it.
