College Prowler Take

For a small school, Davidson boasts some big-time facilities. Students consistently rave about the Student Union, which provides an array of pool tables, work spaces, and inviting couches in a four-story, atrium atmosphere. The Union also houses a full-service Post Office, 24-hour workout room, and the state-of-the-art Duke Performance Hall.

As for athletic facilities, Davidson’s status as an NCAA Division I school grants students access to athletic facilities that simply can’t be found at schools of similar size. The athletic nexus of the campus is the 142,000-square-foot Baker Sports Complex, which houses the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center, racquetball courts, Cannon Pool, and Belk Arena. The arena has a maximum capacity that seats a crowd five times the size of the student body, which provides ample space for Davidson’s dedicated alums and involved fans from the surrounding community.

Davidson seems to have an overall dedication to maintaining and improving the facilities on campus. The facilities are well-equipped, and designed in an appealing Georgian, neoclassical style, merging the old and the new in a stately theme of red brick and columns. Despite its obvious efforts, Davidson can’t compete with the extensive facilities found at larger schools, and students here occasionally complain about the lack of food choices and places of entertainment on campus. If you’re looking for a small school atmosphere with bigger-than-average facilities, however, Davidson should certainly be on your list.

I love the library. It has enough room for all the students, and its many levels allow for quiet study or rambunctious study, depending on your mood. The student center (the Union) is baller, and it's so large and nice. I also like the personal health facility, where you can go to workout and not be intimidated by the basketball team. Our arena is incredible, and I love going to basketball games there! It's so great to have the huge student section where you can always get a free ticket.

Facilities are fairly nice at Davidson. The college union is wonderfully set up, Baker Sports Complex is very nice, complete with squash/racquetball courts, tennis courts, basketball stadium, swimming pool, small workout gym, and a small sandwich spot. The arts center is also wonderful. The library is decent -- a little old in appearance but pretty nice. I would like a few more places to study, since the main spots get pretty boring after a while.

Facilities on campus are some of the nicest I’ve seen anywhere. Baker Sports Complex is incredible for a small school. But the crown jewel is the student union. With the bookstore, post office, Union Café, weight room, climbing wall, offices for student organizations, wireless Internet, state-of-the-art theater, and quiet corners to study, this has become the center of student life. Never a day goes by when I don’t stop into the union.
