College Prowler Take
Here’s an interesting phenomenon: Davidson students can never seem to decide whether the student body is hot or not. Even so, while many won’t hesitate to point out that the selection here doesn’t compare to bigger schools, most still feel students here are pretty attractive considering the limited number of people of the opposite sex. Maybe it’s the climate, maybe it’s the easygoing Southern atmosphere, but there is some merit to the old saying that the ‘girls are prettier down South.’ As it turns out, the boys aren’t so bad, either. In terms of dating these people, however, the consensus is that it’s largely an all-or-nothing venture—either hook up once or get married. One thing that can be said for students at Davidson is that they’re pretty fit. People here can’t help but stay healthy and are always excited to take a recess from a long session of crouching over a computer screen with a three-mile jog around campus. Also, Davidson kids tend to fare well in the categories of attractiveness beyond physical appearance. If intelligence is a big turn-off for you, don’t come here. We can’t promise your date won’t be a weirdo, but he’ll certainly be able to keep up with your conversation, and you may even learn something from one another. Students at Davidson come from a wide range of backgrounds and are here because of their passion and enthusiasm for academics. They aren’t afraid to say intelligence is sexy, but on weekends they’re looking to hook up with something other than a chemistry textbook. Students Speak Out

I guess it has to do with being in the South, but I was surprised as a freshman with how many guys would stop and hold the door for me. I could get used to Southern chivalry. I think the girls are really nice, as well. A few groups seem to feel that going to class is an opportunity for a fashion show, but that attitude is easily avoidable and not at all necessary. In terms of clothing, J.Crew and Ralph Lauren have a noticeable presence on campus. Maybe they’ll donate some money towards our endowment? |

Most students at Davidson are good-looking, but in terms of the dating scene, there isn’t much of one. Students seem to be in serious relationships or not at all. There’s not much in between. |

Yes - At the Student Health Facility. Condoms are supplied free and stocked in first-aid cabinets in every hall on campus.
Social Scene
Students at Davidson are, for the most part, very outgoing and friendly. Despite this, and perhaps because everyone is also so busy with school work, it's typical here to get pigeonholed into a small group of friends and stop meeting people. Most remedy this situation with drunken encounters on Patterson Court, but there are also plenty of "alcohol free" opportunities out there as well.
Hookups or Relationships?
It's one or the other with very little in between—as you'll likely hear many on campus complaining about the lack of casual dating here. It's pretty common to see couples who date exclusively all four years, and probably just as common to hear that a friend hooked up randomly last weekend. Casual dating is hard to find, and usually (unfortunately), when someone asks someone else out, people assume more of a long-term interest than is often possible at that stage of the game. Needless to say, this whole phenomenon causes fewer people to be asked out—and a lot more people just to spend the night together.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
An ideal place to meet that special someone is on Patterson Court on the weekends. However, such encounters usually focus less on the intellectual, personal side of someone and tend to center on the physical aspect of that person (must be the alcohol). Those looking for something long-term usually have better success meeting people through clubs, service, or other activities where you can find others with similar interests. And from time to time, yes, people will even meet in class.
Dress Code
While not excessively so, Davidson is a preppy school. Students, guys, and girls alike, take pride in their appearance. Take a look around in any given class, and you'll most definitely see students who put some effort into looking their best that morning. Clean shirts, pressed pants, and decent shoes are par for the course. The fact that all Davidson students have their clothes washed free of charge and as often as they want at the college laundry tends to help. (Davidson isn't the only school that does this; unfortunately, the other two happen to be military academies.) At the same time, this doesn't mean everyone on campus is a fashion snob. It is not uncommon for students to roll out of their beds and into class in their sandals and pajama bottoms. With the workload here (and the lack of sleep that comes along with it) you'll certainly understand why. In general, though, Davidson students are a "smart" looking bunch.
