College Prowler Take

Enthusiasm for nightlife varies dramatically on campus, with some students soaking it up and others avoiding it entirely. The unanimous student favorite is the Brickhouse Tavern, which is within convenient stumbling distance from campus. Beyond the Brickhouse, students will hit up a number of smaller places in the neighboring town of Cornelius, or take the trip down to Charlotte. While many never get into the city because they feel it’s too long of a drive (about 25 minutes), those who do go have plenty to choose from—from Top 40 to swing to blues.

Despite the various options off campus, most students at Davidson still choose to party on Patterson Court. Many point out, however, that Court parties can get pretty old after a few years. Freshmen and sophomores hit the Court with reckless abandon, while fewer juniors and even fewer seniors make it a weekly tradition (although there are still plenty who do). Fortunately, the array of off-campus options makes it more than possible to have a great time without Courting it—you just have to be willing to go a bit more out of your way. In terms of being a party city, many point out that Charlotte is known much more for its restaurants than its happening night spots; in reality, there’s more than enough to do there if you look in the right places. Additionally, it’s very much worth mentioning the events hosted by the Union Board, which works to bring additional nightlife to campus. The Board is responsible for hosting a big-time concert each year, which have included such artists as OAR and Death Cab for Cutie in the past.

There are no bars or clubs near campus, though you could go to Charlotte--which kids don't. The Depot is one off-campus apartment building that usually has good parties. All of the houses on the Court have parties from one time to another. Senior apartments like F and Ryburn always have a party, if you're looking for it.

The parties on campus are pretty good. There is always something going on at a frat or eating house, which is open to all students. Also, there are always parties at the senior apartments. The nightlife off campus, however, isn't very popular.

I really like the Court parties. Some people don't, and I can understand why. If you're not into the drinking scene, the Union offers really fun events every weekend.

Parties here are pitiful, and mainly go down on the Court in fraternities. There is one so-so bar in town, and you have to go to Charlottle for clubs, but that is more trouble than it is worth.

There’s a place called the Brick House right off campus that’s a favorite for most of the students. On campus, the parties are pretty good. One nice thing about them is that they are very rarely closed to anyone, even the fraternity parties. Pretty much everyone is welcomed everywhere.

Facts

Club Crawler

Charlotte has a wide variety of clubs to choose from. Here are a few of the favorites.

Organization Parties

The union hosts a lot of events, from bands to a giant foam party. Multiple organizations on campus, such as the Davidson International Association, will also throw parties from time-to-time, usually in the senior apartments. Sports teams and clubs will also throw parties pretty frequently, although they tend to be more private and less publicized.
