Quick StatsBest Place to Take Your ParentsCollege Prowler Take
Students feel there are more than enough options to choose from when it comes to off-campus dining, both in the town of Davidson and beyond. Many are drawn to the family-operated Soda Shop and Summit Coffee on Main Street, while others prefer the wide selection of franchises just minutes away by car—from KFC to Cracker Barrel. There are also plenty of classier options within 10 minutes from campus, such as Mickey & Mooch in Huntersville, and when the suburban scene becomes monotonous, students can head down to Charlotte to take advantage of any number of the great restaurants the Queen City is known for. Thanks to the endless variety of options, eating off campus is pretty standard for students at Davidson, and this is especially important given the slim number of meal options on campus. Most students go out to eat at least once every weekend, and upperclassmen are known to eat out a lot more than that. Still, all that eating out can get pricey, and even quick favorites like McAlister’s Deli are not that inexpensive. Fortunately, a number of popular locations are now offering student discounts (Zapata’s takes off 25 percent), and the truly savvy eaters will take advantage of the great all-you-can-eat lunch buffets around town. You won’t have to gain your Freshman 15 at Davidson, but it’s nice to know you can.

There are a fair amount of restaurants available within walking distance of campus, and if you have a car, the options are expanded further. If you want to get really adventurous, or can drop some coin, head into Charlotte and experience the growing culinary scene their. With in walking distance of campus, I'd recommend Toast, Soda Shop, Fuel Pizza, the Brickhouse. A short drive away, Sangam Indian is excellent, and there are new restaurants opening in Birkdale, exit 25, all the time. 131 Main is a great place in close driving distance for a fancy meal, or when the parents are in town.

There are a few great restaurants...
There are a few great restaurants right on Main Street that students love to eat at: The Brick House (typical burgers, pizza, wings...delicious!), Bonsai (sushi and chinese food), The Soda Shop (a quaint sandwich place), Toast, Fuel Pizza, and some pricier Italian and Indian restaurants. Right off I-77, a couple exits North and South, you can find any type of food you can think of.

I love the restaurants off campus....
I love the restaurants off campus. I love the fact that there are no fast food restaurants in Davidson. Instead we have places like the Soda Shop, Ben & Jerry’s, and Summit Coffee. I have yet to find a restaurant in Davidson which I did not think was excellent. The only drawback is that it costs money to eat at these places. The College has been working diligently, however, to allow more of these restaurants to accept CatCards. |

There are lots of great restaurants off campus. My roommate and I usually eat at the Soda Shop on Main Street every couple of weeks. Also, within walking distance is the Brick House, which is really good as well. For local restaurants that are a short drive away, Birkdale Shopping Center has Brixx pizza and a really good Mexican place, along with a couple of fancier restaurants. And, of course, if you’re up for a little bit longer drive, Charlotte has about everything you could ask for, including the Melting Pot and Capital Grille. |

Davidson’s access to great food...
Davidson’s access to great food and off-campus restaurants is exceptional for a small liberal arts school that, upon one glance at the small town of Davidson, would seem to be in the middle of nowhere. Within five minutes down the highway, students can access everything from big chain restaurants to smaller local places. For late night snacks, go to Waffle House. Also, hit up California Juice Company for some of the best smoothies around, and Joel’s for some of the best sushi and Japanese food. When the parents visit, ask for dinner at Mickey & Mooch, where you’ll find excellent food that’s normally too expensive for a college student’s budget. |

The best places to grab food super late are Cookout, Denny’s, and Waffle House, as they’re not only open late but are located only a few minutes from campus by car.
