Availability usually has less do to with when you look and more with how long you’re willing to rent. While there are plenty of openings year round, many renters are not interested unless you can commit to at least six months.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Finding off-campus housing is simply not as big of an issue at Davidson as at other schools, as over 90% of students remain on campus all four years, and college housing is guaranteed the entire time to any student who wants it. Still, a number of upperclassmen will seek off-campus permission each semester, usually to save money, have more living space, or simply escape campus. Some students warn that moving off campus often causes students to lose social contact with all the “happenings” at Davidson. For some this is a big problem, while others couldn’t care less.

Because off-campus living is never a consideration for the majority of Davidson students, many just assume there aren’t many good options out there. Those that actually look for housing wind up finding plenty of possibilities, however, and virtually all of them are less expensive than on-campus, college-owned apartments. In addition, the area surrounding Davidson is currently experiencing a building boom, and apartments are becoming easier and easier to find. The Depot Apartments are a perennial favorite. A whole new neighborhood of houses with one-bedroom units over the garages recently opened off Concord Road, just minutes from campus, and many of these units have already been leased to college students. So far, there haven’t been too many noise complaints.

Inconvenient and Not as Good as on Campus Housing

Off campus housing and parties are just really sketchy. With the new on-campus apartments and dorms in addition to the new renovations, it is so much better to just live on campus! Because on-campus housing is so great, the college isn't too fond of students trying to live off campus either.

Off-Campus Housing

The cost for off-campus housing is pretty affordable but most people live on campus since the process of off-campus permission is a bit more challenging and finding a place can be difficult. Also, it is a small school so most people stay on campus.

Rare

Off campus housing at Davidson is fairly rare with only a small percentage of the campus taking advantage. RLO requires that a certain number of students live on campus, and every semester the residences on campus are full. Often the off-campus housing is cheaper, but more distant than the residence halls, and as a result just aren't as popular as on-campus.
