College Prowler Take
Students’ main sentiment about public transportation is that they don’t need any. In fact, most are at a loss for words when asked about it. Because everyone is allowed to have a car on campus starting freshman year, most people simply drive to their destinations—or know someone who can take them. The town of Davidson itself is so small that usually it takes less time to walk from one end to the other than it does to drive and find a parking spot. One place that students often need a ride to is Charlotte Douglas Airport, which, fortunately, is just 25 minutes by car. Those without cars can take an inexpensive shuttle service provided by the College (although only around the holidays). The only other form of public transportation in town is the CATS bus, which runs into Charlotte, although students seldom, if ever, use it. Students do take advantage of the Vamanos Van, however, which drives any Davidson student to any destination in the nearby towns or down to Charlotte Thursday through Saturday nights, free of charge. Vamanos provides a weekend alternative for those without transportation or those who are simply too drunk to operate it.

Public transportation is adequate. However, there really isn't too much of a need for public transportation around Davidson. You can pretty much walk anywhere.

You're bound to have a friend who can drive you since freshmen can have cars on campus. There's a Vamanos Van that can take students five miles north or south on I-77, as well as around campus, Wednesday through Saturday. But sometimes the driver gets angry and refuses to take you. So, rely on your car or a friend's car.

There is a bus system that runs through Davidson, but I’ve never known anyone to actually ride on it. My suggestion: bring a car. Either that or make friends with someone who has one. |

I have never needed to use public transportation, since I have a car and parking at Davidson is very reasonable. My freshman year I did not have a car, and I found that most of the time I didn’t need one. When I did, there was always somebody who could give me a ride. |

Public Transportation around the...
Public Transportation around the town of Davidson is unnecessary since you can walk from one side of the town to the other. Buses can take students up and down the highway to nearby larger towns such as Cornelius and Mooresville, but I’ve never taken one, since finding rides with friends is easy enough and more convenient than waiting for the bus. |
