Deep Springs is pretty strict all the way around, providing a very structured environment for the young men attending the school. Students rise before the sun comes up to get started on their day, doing chores and such. Then, they have classes between breakfast and lunch, and after lunch, students have special projects they work on. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at prompt times: 7:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 6 p.m.  There really isn't a lot of freedom to do exactly what you want whenever you want.

In terms of other restrictions, students are not allowed to use drugs or alcohol at all. Also, students are not allowed to leave the valley unless it's for business, religious services, or emergencies. Each year, students discuss and vote on the rules put in place.
