It is impossible to put into words how inspiring Deep Springs Valley is—there are simply too many reasons accounting for its beauty. There are no nearby towns; the closest town of 5,000 inhabitants is 30 miles away. Complicating matters further, half of the student body changes every year; like most things in the area, the local atmosphere is best described as "fluid."
Despite the College's isolation and small community, the setting is far from dull. The intimacy of such a community magnifies the importance of every person. While this intimacy can border on claustrophobic, the desert location accommodates the need for space. Hikes through the rugged landscape are common, and it is impossible to exhaust the resources of the valley's geography in just two years.
