Granville is really small so the options are pretty limited in town. Dragon Village, Brew's, and Broadway Pub are the most popular options which are all very affordable. Whit's is a godsend to many students. If you have a car, Newark and Easton are not too far away for access to chain restaurants and more dining options.
College Senior 2013-08-13T14:37:46Z
Transportation isn't really needed since the campus is small and self-contained on the hill. There are many shuttles to Easton and a few other places for students without a car to have some fun off-campus.

Denison touts that it a diverse school, however the student body is very very white and wealthy. I really hated that the students segregate themselves so that the students who are of similar backgrounds all group together, making it really hard to become friends with someone different from you. There are a good number of racial minority and international students, but not enough to make much of a difference.

Denison has just hired a new dining service: Bon Apetite! It is a significant step up from the dining service the school has contracted in the years past. With a focus on buying local, fresh preparation, and transparent information, the food at Denison is going to be one its new strengths.

Denison University is not a very strict school. You will get in trouble if you are caught with drugs or open containers of alcohol if you are underage, but for the most part, the university is pretty easy going about everything else.

The drug scene is not very big at Denison University, it really depends on the group of people that you hang out with. There is not any kind of peer pressure, if you do not want to participate in the drugs, people will not be mad at you. The more popular scene is the alcohol. It's very commonly found at just about every party.

The local atmosphere at Denison University is a small, yet very welcoming atmosphere. The community near Denison is very nice and all of the people around the community recognize and show an extreme amount of respect to the Denison students. Often there are small fairs that are held right in the main road of the community and these fairs are open to everybody; and they're very fun to participate in.

There off campus dining options near my school are pretty good options that everybody on campus enjoys. The only setback about them is that some of the dining options require travel, and this would hurt the students who do not have vehicles and can't find a ride to get to the dining options that they wish to go to.

The cost to park on campus is reasonable and there are always free spots for students. But as a freshman, you will get the worst parking.

Partying is very prevalent on Denison's campus, most likely because it's located in a small town so it seems like there is nothing else to do on weekends. However, I don't feel students are pressured into drinking if they do not want to. There is some drug use too, but it is not very visible. This past year, parties were required to be registered - the names of the people hosting the party, who the sober party-goers would be, when the party would be, and an agreement that snacks and water would be available. The administration is really trying to help students be smarter and safer about partying.

Denison is most known for lacrosse and swimming. These teams are heavily recruited for, and always perform well. Students do not crowd the stands by any means at most sporting events, except for lacrosse games against our rival schools. Denison sports as a whole are quite respectable. There are also club sports like hockey, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee and more. The athletic center is in the process of being redone to provide athletes and students with better training and workout machines, which will enhance campus a lot.

Guys & Girls:
I think Denison has a very eclectic group of students. People are generally good looking, but there isn't a specific look that summarizes a Denison student. There are "artsy" people, preppy people, and others who dress casually. Many students try to look good for classes (as in they put thought into their outfits and do not wear sweats). Denison has a lot of student athletes and people in Greek life, but playing a specific sport or being in a specific fraternity/sorority does not give someone a higher social status. There is definitely a large hookup culture, and not much dating.

In the fall, the views on campus and of the surrounding area are breathtaking. During this time there is also a lot of rain, unfortunately. The winters are cold and seem to last a while, but luckily the walk from any residence hall is not too far. During the spring students are always found outside relaxing, doing homework, or playing casual football or frisbee.

Nightlife at Denison is mostly on campus, with the exception of formals, and there is something for everyone! Parties are held in the dorms which is actually better than it sounds! Students who are under 21 still have a great time. Granville does have two bars where upperclassmen tend to go spend their time. The activities board also brings in comedians, musicians, and organizes other activities for students as well.

At Denison, everywhere on campus is walkable. Having a car is definitely convenient, but is not necessary. Denison provides students with a shuttle to the airport and Megabus pickup, however it does not provide a way for students to get back to campus if they take the Megabus. Denison also provides shuttles to Easton shopping center and Walmart a few times a week. It would be nice if it was more frequent, but overall is a nice service.
College Sophomore 2013-07-28T20:39:16Z
The campus is generally very fair. However, parties now need to be registered and over by 1 am. Students who are responsible and respectful do not have issues with campus security.
College Sophomore 2013-07-28T20:33:11Z
I don't have a car on campus, but parking seems ok. Some of my friends have cars at school and are always able to find a place to park. Freshmen parking is inconveniently located though.

Health & Safety:
Our health center isn't the greatest but it gets the job done. Safety on campus is a big deal and the University makes sure it is of top priority.

We are totally a prep school type of dress. Once you arrive on campus, you ca easily see what the latest fashion is trending.

Granville is a small town with a hometown comfort feeling. Although there isn't much to do, there are plenty of gathering spots in which students meet at. Granville is also close enough to Health and Newark that students can drive to those locations for a more urban setting. Then with Columbus only thirty-five minutes away, students have the opportunity to go to the city if they please.

Every academic department I've come in contact with whether by hearing about it or taking classes in it have been great. I have loved most of the professors I have had.

Guys & Girls:
It is very easy to get involved on campus and meet friends. The small campus allows for seeing people a lot which I think really fosters those good, close friendships.

The usual Ohio weather...you can experience all four seasons in a week.
College Senior 2013-07-22T15:36:14Z
Computers are usually pretty available since most students have their own laptops. There are multiple labs across campus for students to use for printing or the usual stuff, students can also set up their personal computer for printing to lab printers. The network is usually pretty good but at times has issues with high traffic, but the ITS department is working on fixing that.

Health & Safety:
I have rarely gotten sick on campus. Anything I've gotten was due to my own fault and the facilities on campus have provided almost anything I've needed to get better. Campus is very safe with hardly anything negative events occurring, but when something does happen security is quick to respond.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
