Denison has a fully wireless campus, as well as high-speed Internet; overall, though, computers are not a huge part of Denison life. Most students have their own laptops to make homework easier, but having your own computer isn’t essential. There are eight computer labs, but compared to other universities, there are not a great number of computers here. Still, students can generally find an open computer when they need one, as most students will stop by only for a few moments to print something. Also, there are Fellows, Curtis, and Huffman Labs, which are open 24 hours a day.
Some professors utilize Blackboard, an online assignment tool, to post quizzes, problem sets, and assigned readings, but it is entirely a personal decision on their part. Many professors do use electronic reserves, and having your own computer makes it easy to access these. The library has even gone online to make searching for books easier—you can find any book in the library listed online, as well as those available at nearby campuses. The downside to Denison’s computer scene is that the wireless can lag when you live in a dorm with over 100 students. However, the network is virus-free and campus only experiences loss of Internet when severe storms occur.
