Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

You have to look to find any serious drug use on Denison’s campus. The administration has really worked hard to eradicate Denison’s reputation as a party school, and they have been largely successful. Alcohol can get a little out of hand at times, and a lot of weed goes around, but drugs at Denison are nothing more (and perhaps less) than you’ll find at any other campus. These drugs are done in excess in order to get trashed or to be social. So, almost everyone knows people who like to smoke pot all day, but it’s hard to find a hardcore druggie.

The fact is that there is less drug use at Denison than at an average high school. Non-users feel almost no pressure to partake of anything. There are rumors of harder drugs going around, but no one will admit to seeing it happen. The bottom line is, yes, there are some drugs, particularly the softer ones, but they aren’t a dominant feature in Denison culture. It is usually a rumor that the harder drugs, such as heroin or cocaine are used, but it is not out in the open. There have been a decent amount of alcohol and drug referrals and arrests, but probably no more than on any other campus. Furthermore, people who get in trouble are probably not being intelligent and discreet about their use.

Drinking Is More Apparent

Drinking is the biggest thing on campus and there are at most 4 nights a week that a lot of people go out drinking. There are a few people who do hard drugs but not many.

STAY ON CAMPUS!

As long as you stay on campus, security will slap you on the wrist. As soon as you leave campus, GPD will rough you up and hassle you. Smoke on campus!

Drinking, Smoking, Studying

Like most campuses, alcohol is everywhere. Supposedly there are people on campus who don't drink, but I have no idea where they go on weekends. I would say the second most used drug on campus is either weed or study drugs. Harder drugs are less prevalent, but every once in a while when you're out you might walk in on people doing lines of cocaine.
