I love greek life at Denison because I'm involved in it. I wish it were a little larger, but I also like having non-greek friends.

I'm not in Greek life, so I can only speak as an outsider. Fall semester, Greek life is present but not overtly so. Spring semester, during rush season until about April, when initiations are done, however, it basically becomes all that anyone talks about. It gets annoying when you're not a part of it, but the girls that I know that rushed and pledged (there is a very high acceptance rate- almost everyone that rushes gets into at least a sorority [I can't speak for frats]) really found a family for themselves within their sorority. There is no residential Greek housing, but the sororities and fraternities all have houses where they hold chapter meetings. I also cannot speak for the multi-cultural Greek societies, but I have heard nothing but good things about the members of it. All in all, even though the majority of students aren't actually in Greek life, Greek life is definitely a major influence on social culture.

Greek Life basically runs the party scene at Denison. If you go out on a weekend night, it's probably to a frat party. We are supposedly only 30% Greek, but that overlooks a lot of factors into the social scene on campus. The scene is a lot bigger than the administration likes to admit. However, Greeks are responsible for a lot of good on this campus. One would hope the new administration realizes this as they begin their term next semester.

Greek life at Denison is a good balance; about a third of the student body is Greek so it's there if you want it and you won't be excluded f you don't. Greek life can seem exclusive at certain times of the year but overall most students think positively of the Greek atmosphere. There aren't really any tensions/problems between Greeks and non-Greeks. Also it is not an option for Greeks to live in the houses so Greek students are just as connected to the school community as everyone else.

Whoever said that Denison was only 30% greek life completely LIED. the first semester as a freshman is great because all the parties are open. But once rush has happened after january the parties become exclusive and the majority of people that like to go out for that matter are in greek life. If you dont want to be a part of it here but still want to have fun on the weekends you might come across some issues. it can really put a damper in your social life.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
