Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students are pretty mixed in their opinion about guys and girls. Some find them fairly attractive, and others find them to be average. It’s a common opinion that girls are more attractive than guys, but hot guys are not extinct—just hidden.

Denison is a preppy school, and this is reflected in the way students present themselves. Especially in the warmer periods of the year, students are polished and well-dressed. During the winter, a lot of students focus more on dressing for the weather than dressing to impress, and that cuts down a little on the polish, but overall, students still look nice. This seems to be more important to the ladies at Denison, although with the gender ratio tipped in their favor, some wonder why Denison gents aren’t more concerned. The party atmosphere at Denison encourages some sexual promiscuity, and if you are a person who goes to parties, the odds are good that you can find someone to hook up with, but it is unlikely that it will turn into a committed relationship. Dating does happen, but hookups are more common. Problems can arise if you rack up a couple of exes as Denison is a small campus, and the likelihood of running into your ex with frequency is high. Overall, there are a number of lookers at Denison, both male and female, but relationships are not necessarily a Denison focus.

Attractive Clones

The student body is generally very attractive, just not much diversity. Make sure you're prepared for the broverload. The sorority girl prototype is also dominant, wearing their uniform of uggs/hunters, leggings, northfaces, and sorority shirts/sweatshirts. There is definitely a population of students who break the mold and display their own personal style, but these students aren't really celebrated. The "cool kids" are the ones who conform. I would really like to see Denison become a more of a place that encourages individuality.

Don't Go to Class in Sweats

Although pretty much everyone can find a group to fit in with, the majority of guys and girls dress nicely, even for class. When going out on weekends (or Mondays and Wednesdays for that matter), guys dress in jeans and a tee shirt or polo, but girls go all out in tight dresses, skirts, and heels. Most students are somehow involved in athletics and/or the arts. Most people are very easy to get along with, even upperclassmen/freshmen.

Lot's of Hook-Ups

Denison has an attractive student body, generally speaking. Even if natural born looks are prevalent, good fashion sense and confidence can make most people at Denison look attractive. Denison's students generally wear designer clothes, which ends up looking like a uniform. For girls, it mostly comprises of: Hunter boots, leggings/skinny jeans, Patagonia or Barbour jacket, and a Longchamp Le Pilage tote. For the guys: fratstar. Backwards caps, preppy shirts or lax shirts, chino shorts and sperrys. For those who cannot afford the Denison look, it can be annoying, but it's not the end of the world. Denison mostly has hook-ups, but not so many relationships. Most real relationships happen Junior and Senior years. However, relationships do happen for Freshmen and Sophomores, just not as commonly.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

Socially, the biggest hurdle for Denisonians is to get to know people outside of their majors and other groups. It's fairly common to see all of the separate social groups segregated in the student union.

Hookups or Relationships?

The party scene is fairly strong—therefore, there are lots of hookups. That isn't to say there aren't relationships, though. A lot of the girls look for relationships, and there is a high rate of Denisonians marrying other Denisonians.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

It's difficult to say where the best place to meet people is. A lot of Denison students are really focused on their studies, so sometimes the best place to meet people can be in class. Otherwise, people like to hang out at Slayter and on the quads. Going to parties is one of the best ways to meet people, but you can also meet people at a showing of a DFS film or by running into people at the library. It all depends on your focus.

Dress Code

The dress code at Denison is fairly dressy. Denison's campus looks like a J.Crew catalog—that statement is fairly accurate. If you look in the display window of any trendy store, you will see clothes that the majority of students at Denison wear. Khakis and polo shirts are common fare for men, and women are most commonly seen in skirts.
