Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students agree that Denison’s campus is safe. Security is usually not terribly visible on campus, but patrols become much more prominent once classes are finished for the day. Students find the security guards approachable, and many will stop to talk with students as they do their rounds for the evening. In addition, there are blue-light phones scattered around campus for students to use in case of an emergency.

There is an escort service for students to use at night if they wish, although most are comfortable enough to walk alone. When a student does call for an escort, it is usually more out of laziness than fear—lots of students don’t like to walk up and down the hill. Dorm security is fairly lax. Dorms are locked 24 hours a day, and students have access only to their own dorms after 1 a.m. However, there are no reception desks in the dorms, and if someone really wants in, all they have to do is wait until a student walks out. Thus, it is always a good idea to lock your door to lessen the risk of any valuables being stolen. Safety is not really an issue at Denison, but it pays to be smart and make intelligent decisions in order to minimize the possibility of finding yourself in an unsafe situation.

Insanely Safe Campus

Denison is so unbelievably safe. Pretty much everyone on my floor leaves their doors unlocked at all times and I've never worried about doing that. I've even left my computer at the library while I ran back to my dorm one time. I have literally zero worries about campus crime, personal safety, theft, etc.

Very Safe

The campus is relatively small so campus security is relatively quick in getting to places. It's also on a hill so it's isolated from the rest of the town.

Security at Denison Is Top-Notch but Not Over-Bearing

The security at Denison is excellent. Denison's campus has a history of being incredibly safe and crime-free. The security guards really only bust parties after 1 am or so for noise violations or whatever. They probably annoy students the most for their notorious parking tickets, which can really add up after a while, but besides that, they really know when to step in and when to realize they have to choose their battles. I think one of the best things about the security at denison are the "blue lights" which are emergency posts. I don't know anyone that has used one, but just seeing them in the middle of the night coming back from the library is a comfort. Denison also has a lot of programs, such a safe ride, to make sure students feel safe and secure at all times on campus. Denison even puts a time limit on entering residential buildings after a certain hour (as in you cannot enter a residential building other than your own after midnight or so). Overall,it really doesn't get any safer than Denison.
